And Guantanamo Bay, black sites, Alligator Auschwitz, and the American prison population confirms the downsides of capitalism?
One shit iteration of “communism” that by definition didn’t meet any of the requirements to be called communism can’t be held up forever to be the boogeyman to prevent progress.
Communism (from Latin communis ‘common, universal’)[1][2] is a sociopolitical, philosophical, and economic ideology within the socialist movement,[1] whose goal is the creation of a communist society, a socioeconomic order centered on common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products in society based on need.[3][4][5] A communist society entails the absence of private property and social classes,[1] and ultimately money[6] and the state.[7][8][9]

I started by purchasing nettle tea, then started harvesting from random wild patches, and have now started growing it (but haven’t harvested any yet).
From personal experience, I find nettle tea great for hayfever. In peak pollen season, mid-summer, when it’s really bad, I still need medication but in spring and autumn when things are ramping up or dying down I just use nettle tea. So it works, but can’t fully replace modern medicine.
It’s a rather plain flavour, not delicious but not nasty either. A plain enjoyable brew. I find a cup in the morning is usually enough, but sometimes a second one in the afternoon is needed.
I wear gloves like this when harvesting and act with confidence. Stinging nettles sting if you brush them lightly but if you grasp them hard you crush the stingers and prevent yourself getting stung. So be confident, do not hesitate, grab them hard. I then just use scissor or secateurs to cut leaves (or cut a stem and pick the leaves off later).
To prep it for tea:
To make tea:
Pro-tip: I use both a tiny sieve and a cheesecloth to ensure no “bits” get through and settle at the bottom, but it’s not necessary, just personal preference.
Good luck, and I hope this helps settle any stingy eyes or runny noses!
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, consume nettle tea at your own risk, blah blah blah.
Neat flyer ProdigalFrog!
I’ve put page 1 and page 2 visible together if that’s of any use:
For a decade, Russia has submitted a text denouncing the ‘glorification of Nazism’
In the context of the war in Ukraine – and with Russia justifying its invasion, which began on 24 February, by the desire to “denazify” the country – many states that had previously abstained decided to vote against the resolution
In its explanation of the vote, the European Union recalled that it had been advocating “for years that the fight against extremism and the condemnation of the despicable ideology of Nazism must not be misused and co-opted for politically motivated purposes that seek to excuse new violations and abuses of human rights.”
According to the press release published on the UN website, Ukraine called this text hypocritical believing that, contrary to its title, it was a pretext used by Russia to justify its brutal war against its country and the despicable crimes committed against humanity.
The countries opposing the resolution emphasize at every turn that they do not in any way condone the Third Reich. “We reaffirm our strongest condemnation of all forms of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance,” Ukraine insisted in 2019, while recalling that 8 million Ukrainians died in the Nazi offensive.
Before the vote, Australia managed to get an amendment to the draft resolution adopted (63 votes in favor, 23 against and 65 abstentions) inserting a new paragraph in which the General Assembly “notes with alarm that the Russian Federation has sought to justify its territorial aggression against Ukraine on the purported basis of eliminating neo-Nazism, and underlines that the pretextual use of neo-Nazism to justify territorial aggression seriously undermines genuine attempts to combat neo-Nazism.”
Hmm…
I wanted to know the same thing so this is what my searching has brought up, specifically for Scots Gaelic as that’s what I’ve been learning.
Speak Gaelic - Gaelic only, government funded, free
IndyLan - for endangered European languages, made by Heriot-Watt University and EU funded, free
Mango Languages - appears to be the closest to a Duolingo replacement. Many languages, subscription.
Glossika - another Duo replacement however that URL doesn’t fill me with confidence that they’re not going down the same route… Subscription for most languages, endangered ones are free.
Apart from the first Mango lesson for free and a few IndyLan lessons I’ve not tried any of these so can’t speak for their quality but thought a list might still be handy.
What I find interesting is all the blame appears to be getting laid at Toby’s feet. They’re not tree experts, why are the people that felled it not also under fire?
They of everyone involved should have known best to say “fuck no, I ain’t cutting that down”. But they were paid to cut down a tree so they took the money and cut down the tree.
That’s not to say the carvery shouldn’t be under fire, I just think the tree experts should be mostly held accountable rather than a pub manager.

No dig gardening is a method that can help you get rid of your grass without the effort of digging or renting equipment.
They had a choice. They chose money over principles.
All they’ve got is Diamonds And Rust
In an assumption that those reading the comments here are lawn cutting folks, please consider not cutting your lawn at all, or if that’s not feasible at least reducing how often or how large an area you do it to. Nature cannot survive the onslaught of every home on the planet having a perfectly neat 10mm tall patch of grass and nothing else. We need diversity.

Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege.

Capitalism most certainly has everything to do with this.
Capitalism robs the workers of most of their value and siphons it up to the owners. We then end up with, those who have far far more than they need, and those with not enough.
The internet allows us to communicate and see these injustices easier than ever before and the Arab Spring brought home to those in power just how powerful the internet can be. It is now aggressively being used against us to promote ultra capitalism and fascism in an attempt to prevent communism/socialism proliferating. And frustratingly, so far, it appears to be working.
I can see the Labour Party coming to power in the next election - maybe, maybe not - who knows? But it doesn’t really make a difference who’s in power - the State remains the same, the structure is still there, they just tinker with it a little here and there.
And because we have a population that doesn’t give a shit about right wing racists, because huge swathes of them are also right wing racists.
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah
