I’ve used Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, and Manjaro. All viable options. I’m currently using Mint on my daily driver, Ubuntu on my HTPCs, and Debian on my servers.

I liked the rolling release aspect of Manjaro, but I missed having a system that works with DEB files. I’m not a fan of flatpak/snap/appimage due to the size (I’ve often had to use slower internet connections). I settled on Mint for my daily driver because it has great and easy compatibility for my hardware (specifically an Nvidia GPU). It worked okay on Manjaro as well, but I’ve found it easier to select and switch between GPU drivers on Mint. And Cinnamon is my favorite DE, and that’s sort of “native” to Mint.

I’m using vanilla Ubuntu on my HTPCs because I have Proton VPN on them, and it’s the only setup I’ve found that doesn’t have issues with the stupid keyring thing. And Proton VPN’s app only really natively supports Ubuntu. The computers only ever use a web browser, so the distro otherwise doesn’t matter that much.

I’m using Debian on my servers because it’s the distro I’m most familiar with, especially without a GUI. Plus it’ll run until the hardware fails, maybe a little longer.

I’m less of a former Christian and more of a thinks-outside-the-box Christian, but I think Mat Kearney is pretty solid regardless of what you believe. Sufjan Stevens is awesome too, but a bit of an aquired taste.

My first concert was Newsboys and Supertones (Newsboys was the opener, it was pretty early for them). Saw FIF a year or two later. Saw Insyderz at a smaller event a few years after that. To this day I get to say I’ve seen the three “big” Christian ska bands live.

What a wild time. Jars is still on a regular rotation for me (Flood and Liquid are both bangers, and their Christmas album is one of my favorite holiday albums).

What other band is going to write a song about Different Strokes? FIF is still part of my regular rotation.

There are some benefits (depending on where you live), but if it’s not for you, keep doing what you’re doing. If your family or friends give you pressure, you might need to have a serious talk with them at some point, but otherwise you do you.

There are some situations where there’s a significant advantage, though. Adoption is one–most agencies will consider (legally married) couples before unmarried folks. Which is unfortunate, but it’s where things are at the moment. Probably some other cases too. But if you and your partner are of a similar mind, you can go to the courthouse and sign the paperwork, and even have a prenup in place if you want, and it doesn’t have to be a “thing.”

It has been reported from some of the racier parts of the computer games business that inflatable sex toys are supplanting the cardboard dog as the Walkthroughee of choice - but for my tastes, they seem to present a look of perpetual suprise which somehow leads me to suspect that I have a dangling pointer or some such.
