  • I thought it was a very interesting idea, I love games that experiment with new things and game mechanics, but it quickly went from being a fun idea to mostly frustrating, especially since you can’t change the controls. Using the mouse and stretching the other hands fingers to control arrow keys and then jump with space is not really that different from playing a piano/keyboard piece that your hands are nearly or just a little too small for. I tested this on a trackpad, but I don’t see an actual mouse making that big of a difference, while the possibility to change the controls actually might make a big difference.

  • Is red wine not generally seen as vegetarian? I know about it not being vegan, but is there something else I don’t know?

I intentionally left out vegan specifically for the same reason.

I would still be interested, as a lot of foodstuffs are considered vegetarian even if some animal sourced ingredient or agent was used. I’m not a 100% vegetarian in the first place. Mostly, but not a 100%.

I mean, you see a lot of vegetarian food sites etc. still include recipes that use eggs and other ingredients that are animal based or -sourced.

edit: Wow, a surprising amount of wine is not even vegetarian and it isn’t just limited to red wine. I mean as a not-100%er it’s such a miniscule part of it, but damn, will keep in mind in the future. Spirits and beer it is!

edit2: Goddamnit apparently a lot of beers use the same fining agents used with wine. At least my spirits are fine for the vast majority at least.

  • Just here to remind everyone to report that shit as well!

I always feel guilty after reporting, because it’s such a different environment, especially over here at beehaw, but I don’t think there’s been a single time that I wasn’t positively surprised that the “housekeeping” agrees there’s no place for shitty behaviour here. Always reaffirms that I definitely joined the right place.

  • The Wizard of Oz was the first, before I knew there was some sort of a difference between this or that animation.

The first “proper” one was either Spirited Away, Chobits (by recommendation) or Bleach. I adore Miyazaki’s work still, Wizard of Oz has a special, nostalgic place in my heart and I want to see it again sometime, Bleach I probably couldn’t bother to watch anymore (soooo much filler and pointless fan-service aimed at teenaged boys, I couldn’t stand all that stuff even then), Chobits I might give a spin sometime just to see if it’s at all not-horrible, but it’s been a while so I can’t really remember. The whole virgin-boy wants sex angle and fan-service thing never appealed to me and ruins so many animes that would be good or even great otherwise.

Most of the time it’s just YouTube and last.fm (I want something similar to something I like or find something new I like - I go through similar artists).

A little less, but still a significant amount - Radio Garden, I have a handful of stations favorited (Shoutout to ‘Radio is a foreign country’, they’re on YouTube and soundcloud as well among others), but sometimes I just “roll the globe” and point and check out what they have on in like, Ghana or something.

Another internet radio thing is SomaFM, though out of their stations I tend to stay on DroneZone the most for some great ambient picks.

  • I wish I hadn’t ruined my first watch of Steins;Gate by starting from one of the last episodes. It got me excited, but there was so much stuff referring to earlier episodes that made me realize I’m not watching the first episode. I’m waiting just a bit longer to restart watching. I did the same with Battlestar Galactica’s last season and got all excited like “Holy shit this last season is going to be crazy” before realizing I just completely ruined the whole season for myself.

  • Seconding Akira and Ghost in the shell, Steins;Gate is great too.

One of the first ones I saw (and I love cyberpunk and scifi shit) was Serial Experiments Lain and it was one of the first ones to get me absolutely hooked. Mind you, it is weird and strange, but if you’re into stuff like David Lynch at all you’ll love it.

Others to look into that aren’t exactly cyberpunk, but futuristic/scifi nonetheless: Neon Genesis Evangelion (finish it, it gets really cool towards the end and I thought all things mecha-anything was just dudes being silly about robots), Cowboy Bebop, Ergo Proxy and Gantz (might seem silly at first, but gets interesting towards the end).

  • kids told us that it was important for Furby to…

    …meditate…

Ok I’m aware that traditions are different in different parts of the world and such, but now I’m picturing that times have changed so much kids are meditating and it’s an important thing to them. I mean I started kind of out of the blue as a kid without outside influence as a pasty white European dude, but I got made fun of for it when people found out.

Kind of really cool if kids are meditating these days.
