  • Are you talking about the portable ones for inflating tires away from home after a flat?

I’ve used one, I had a flat and was reaching for my co2 cartridge when someone handed over their pump instead. It seemed to work fine, and I liked that they could set the target pressure. I would use a floor pump or air compressor at home, though.

  • There’s a guy in our bike club that always rides with music playing via a bluetooth speaker mounted on his handlebars.

I understand where he’s coming from - when I ride indoor, I always have music going. I’d understand playing music while riding solo outside, even though I don’t do it. I’m mostly okay with his playlist, too.

But to play music while riding with a bunch of other people? Are they not interesting enough for him? It’s hard enough to hear each other if we want to chat without music playing. And if someone calls out a safety item (car back, hole, debris, etc.) he and others near him are less likely to hear the call, so there’s a potential effect on safety as well.

Fortunately, I’ve gotten fast enough that he’s never in my ride group any more.

  • Sometimes that little thing is the straw. You’ve had a rough few days, all kinds of twists and turns, but hey you have a relaxing weekend coming up to recharge, so you held it together, then that little thing happens and it’s like “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh fuck!”

That little thing, by itself, probably wouldn’t matter that much…but on top of everything else, it’s a different story.

  • This isn’t really what you asked, but I feel the need to share my experience using an alternate layout.

I used to use the Dvorak layout - for several years, in fact, and I was pretty good with it. I switched back to Qwerty, because Dvorak just caused too many issues, especially at work, and any speed gains were lost in dealing with switching the layout for tech support and things like that. Sometimes they’d remote in and type, and it would translate their keypresses incorrectly.

Now I doubt they’d even let me switch the keyboard layout (a function they don’t expect people to need, so they lock it out to reduce the chance of someone accidentally triggering it).

Qwerty does the job, I guess.
