This is an interesting discussion topic because both angles have good points and that feels unusual these days. On the one hand I think you’re right that some people need the work and that can justify pushing some minor ethical boundaries. On the other hand, the “I’m just doing my job” line of reasoning has been used to justify some pretty horrific stuff throughout history.

A line separating the two should certainly be drawn somewhere but I’m not sure exactly where to put it. I’m pretty confident that a lot of the bad stuff happening in the world right now would improve if more people were more thoughtful about where that line should be.

That’s certainly not a good thing, but are we still under the impression that people learning about climate change is the primary hurdle to addressing it in a meaningful way? It seems pretty clear to me that we don’t want to address it and new information has no impact on that prevailing attitude.

We’ve known for years that Trump regularly sexually assaults women and has for his whole adult life. What would confirming that he did so on a few more occasions in the 90s change?

I think I agree with her concept, just not the food group. I wish it weren’t so but I’m starting to think that only death will separate the MAGA crowd from their collective insanity. If it only impacted them that would be one thing but it’s impacting the whole world.

What many people will take away from your comment is that we shouldn’t try because it’s going to be hard. I don’t think that’s the message you want to be sending so perhaps you should rethink your approach.

I wondered about the same things you did when I saw this but I agree with that other guy too. The response of a rational person is to look for the logic in everything but Trump is an irrational being. Despite 10 years of his bullshit I still haven’t fully trained myself to expect him to be irrational all the time. It’s too counter-intuitive to stick that deep.

That’s assuming that “winning” a war is the objective and I don’t think that’s the case. Lots of people make lots of money from war, among many other objectives, and that is more true the longer the wars drag on.

I’m not particularly confident that a constitutional convention would end positively. You need 3/4 of state legislatures to agree to any change and Republicans are much more likely than Democrats to reach that threshold. The most realistic outcome is probably an amendment banning DEI initiatives or corporate tax rates above 10% or some shit like that.

Even if we assume those contracts get canceled, unless they force him to destroy that data (which probably isn’t possible at this point) and reopen all those investigations then that’s not really true, is it?

He collected data on all Americans from multiple government agencies, successfully killed multiple investigations into several of his companies, and secured additional government contracts for those companies. Is that what we’re calling nothing these days?

Sure, but most of the time you don’t have a lot of time to shop around for a job you like. You have to pay rent and “we didn’t vibe well” is not an acceptable reason to give your dependents when they ask why you didn’t take a job and are now being evicted.

Maybe stop supporting people who rig primaries in favor of establishment candidates then. The last progressive candidate we ran (Obama) won handily twice in a row. Your guys have barely eked out one win out of three against a modern day Hitler. One would expect a better track record behind the level of dogmatic certainty you 90s Republicans display.

If that’s the lesson you learned from those elections then you’re not paying as much attention as you think you are.

I met one of my neighbors kids the other day. They’re new to the neighborhood so we were talking about the ages of his family members compared to mine. He just turned 6. I asked how old his dad was and he said 50 or 60. I could see his dad across the yard and he’s definitely younger than me. I asked how old he thought I was and he said 70. I’m 36. Kids can be meaner on accident than assholes are on purpose.
