As a dumbass working a traditional blue collar trade, get into a trade if you can hack it.

I quit dicking around with bad jobs about ten years ago and got into plumbing, completely green. I apprenticed for 22 an hour and moved up quickly from there. Tradesman Limited got me a bump to $27 an hour, Journeyman got me to $37 an hour. Ill be getting my master license in the next six months, and ill be pulling 45-60$ an hour for my troubles, minimum. Im also working on some specialist endorsements for my license like med gas piping endorsement and my multipurpose residential fire sprinkler installer endorsement. Once i get my med gas endorsement, i can travel the state and install med gas piping in hospitals/dr offices etc. the fire sprinkler endorsement allows me to install residential fire suppression systems that rely on the domestic water supply for water as opposed to stand alone fire systems.

Its taken me ten years to get here. Im 45, I started at 34. A trade isnt for everyone, but i have one career, im off when i want off, and i havent interviewed/applied for a job in those last ten years. My photo portfolio of work, and my licensure is my application. I can support myself, and my three kids on my own. Im not rich, and likely wont ever be, but im slowly worrying a little bit less about where the money is going to come from. At this point, im turning down money because im too busy.

Food for thought if you dont mind dirt under your fingernails, and occasionally dealing with gross stuff.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I guess I kinda don’t care. We have a problem with overconsumption in the US. Maybe it will help? I make no bones about it, this is just a cost saving measure but as a benefit, Americans may consume less sugar and HFCS?
