Over the past few elections, it’s been a tradition for the Conservative party leader to get kicked to the curb after failing to unseat the Liberals. I don’t see why PP should be any different.

This is likely going to lead to the Conservatives splitting between the reformers and the moderates once more
It should, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
I think the party splitting back into its Progressive Conservative and Reform components is long overdue. PCs might’ve held their noses and agreed to a merge for the sake of defeating the Liberals, but since then they’ve sat passively allowing the extreme regressives to take the reins.
A reasonable person might assume PP losing his riding might be a sign that people think a demagogue mini-Trump who blames everything he dislikes on “wokeness” is a very unserious person who isn’t fit to lead a party, but the Conservative Party seems to be very lacking in reasonable people…
Fuckin’ seriously. I don’t know how anyone could look at that and think he’s at all in touch with the common working person.
Honestly, if they drop him into my riding to replace Garnett Genuis, I’d consider it an upgrade.
Not a significant one, mind you, but still a marginal improvement.
Biggest shame here is that, after a mere two decade career during which he accomplished almost nothing, he’ll collect a pension of over $200k per year.
Hopefully this will signal to the Conservatives that Canadians don’t have any use for a demagogue who attributes the world’s ills to “wokeness,” but I’m not holding my breath.
Yes to both. Also, Tiktok, Joe Rogan, and Jordan Peterson for the younger ones, and every newspaper being part of the American owned right wing Postmedia behemoth for the olds who still read the paper.
It was so incredibly sad, Natalie Portman died of sadness. I always thought that sort of thing was reserved for people who lost their spouse of fifty years, and kind of really only worked because they were super old anyway.
I dunno why Anakin didn’t just bail on the whole Jedi thing after they told him he couldn’t be with Padme. It’s not like his Force powers were dependant on an active membership or something; he could’ve just quit, married his smoking hot Senator wife without having to hide it, and remained her personal bodyguard without all the control and manipulation from the Jedi.
Pretty fuckin’ stupid too how he sided with Palpatine when he was Force lightning-ing Mace Windu and Mace was merely defending himself with his lightsaber, though I can kind of understand how he’d reached a breaking point. But then, he’s just like “In for a penny, in for a pound, I guess I’m completely evil now” and goes to kill a bunch of children, many of whom he probably not only knew but likely participated to some extent in their training… that’s even lazier storytelling than “Somehow, Palpatine returned.”
Oh yeah, gotta give a shout out to “You can’t win, I have the high ground!” coming from the guy who defeated Darth Maul while he had the high ground. Fuckin’ brilliant.
One of my favourite things is how the prequel trilogy very justifiably got shat all over in the years following its release, until comparatively recently when the Internet just collectively decided that it was actually really good and people only claimed to dislike it because they thought it was cool to hate.
How white are you? Visibly trans or could be mistaken as trans? Ever post anything critical of Cheeto Benito, or in support of someone like Luigi on Facebook?
Poe’s Law, bud.
No matter how ridiculous a parody someone attempts to create of the grip being mocked, there are members of that group who unironically believes crazier things.
Think I read some study several years back (probably following the Trump-Clinton one) that concluded almost everyone always perceives their “team’s” candidate as having won the debate, and the number of voters swayed by a stellar performance from another candidate is negligible.
Yeah, they’re pretty damn pointless…
North American conservatives don’t really have strong feelings about a lot of things unless someone told them it was part of a “radical leftist woke agenda.” Then, they’ll immediately become very passionate about supporting the opposite position, no matter how fucking stupid it is.
Progressives say vaccines are good? Vaccines bad.
Progressives say pollution is bad? Pollution good.
Progressives say everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect? Time to start inspecting genitals.
At this point, the blind contrarianism has become so instinctive, I legitimately believe a not insignificant number of right wingers would start earning Darwin awards if some notable progressives released some common sense PSAs. Like, get Trudeau and Biden to make a thirty second video on the dangers of operating a chainsaw with a blood alcohol content of 0.3% and a conservative would never win an election again…
Seriously. Dumb fuck can’t go more than two sentences without throwing out “woke ______” and doesn’t even answer the questions being asked.
Speaks poorly of the state of education and people’s critical thinking abilities that this schmuck was ever elected an MP, let alone has a significant following as a party leader.
So are we just averaging all these “once in a century” financial crises over the entirety of human existence, or what?
More projection, or just plain stupidity?
Enough of those dumb fucks have made loud, confrontational politics such a core part of their personality that they can’t wrap their heads around the existence of people who don’t agree with them and know better than to get dragged into arguments with them.
They all likely have friends, family, and coworkers who silently roll their eyes but don’t engage every time they spout off some idiotic bullshit because it’s just not worth pissing off babies who can’t handle being disagreed with.
Because they never learned the art of politely disagreeing and moving on, they believe silence is consensus. With such an ignorant mindset, it’s really not at all surprising that they think unfavourable polling must be fake. Rather than adjusting their worldview based on changing information, they dismiss any information that doesn’t support their worldview.
Right wingers doing right wing things.
That’s why I hate when anyone says, “Find a way to get paid for your hobby and you’ll never work a day in your life.” No, all that does is ruin a fella’s passion for something.
“Highly unlikely” is an escalation when he was previously saying it wasn’t going to happen
