The reason I initially got there was because white wasn’t labeled on the key for the map so my eyes gravitated to the other side where it was. I think in the context of Hexbear and with a little knowledge of the terms used it makes sense, but could be clearer if you plan to use it as propaganda to a broader audience. And I didn’t immediately connect that they were semi-unrelated sections, I assumed they were more inter-related. separating them differently would’ve been clearer to my eyes at least, vertical separation or separate images entirely.

It is a dated communist insult going back to the 50s when many communist parties were infighting or splitting over their differing opinions on the Soviet occupation of Budapest following the october 1956 revolt of nationalist and anti-communist forces. I believe it specifically arose from arguments within the CPGB. However the sense in which it is used by liberals against communists today has little to do with any of that, it’s a word barely clinging to any semblance of meaning, much like how “woke” is used by reactionaries

Okay I went and read the full piece and his criticisms are weaker than I expected and not quite what I imagined them to be. I agree with him that there’s a resemblance to prior dem “lets see donny wriggle his way out of this one” court strategies that didn’t and likely won’t work (but are still worth doing in the background to delay and obstruct), and I also think he’s right that focusing on procedural minutiae in messaging to the public is not going to win anyone over (but of course it’s necessary to use those details in court), but he also presents the whole argument it in a way that is a bit less hostile to doge than I expected from him. Like the dems are bungling this but the comparison to russiagate is kinda inappropriate yeah

the headline thing in particular is funny because a lot (perhaps the majority) are coming on private carriers. Even the ones that are USPS-delivered are now often using middlemen logistics companies to get it into the US first and then hand off to USPS to avoid paying higher premiums for international shipping
But if it’s immediately enforced on all carriers it will grind peoples online shopping treats (and essentials) to a halt which I can’t imagine will go over super well

I still think its a mixed bag at best but mostly because tech companies’ greed and AI bullshit have utterly poisoned the well.
The web is bigger and flashier and capable of doing more than ever, but it requires a pretty hefty CPU to even do basic things that you could do as fast or faster on a midrange tower from 15 years ago. And all the sites are designed to be addictive. Mobile devices are technological marvels more than ever before, but they’re also always within like 2 years of being e-waste, and have become almost completely proprietary and locked into surveillance capitalism, locking out DIYers as much as physically possible. The cameras are great but “processing software” (it was verging into outright editing/enhancement for years even before the latest AI boom) has gotten so “good” that photos often no longer look like real life, they look “better”. The 4k HDR screens come from the factory with baked in ads and dead pixels, the videogames are all building in gambling mechanics to make money, etc etc. And thats not to mention “AI” shit
