  • There are two types of movie going experiences. One where you want the audience to be perfectly quiet and just get absorbed into the movie experience… And the other where audience participation is a big part of the thrill. If you go to an opening night showing, it’s typically the latter, especially for Blockbuster or cult favorite. Both types of experiences are good, but some of my most memorable movie experiences were loud cheering for the hero, people making comments, audience participation showings.

  • No, no they didn’t. I’ve been through a number Republican presidents… Well 3 others … And not one of them was said to be a threat to democracy, not one of them was said to be a threat to the rule of law, and not one of them was it questioned whether they would leave office if they lost election.

It is a bullshit statement to say Trump is a standard Republican and what Democrats are saying is just hyperbole, and this is what they always say. The only way you can possibly think this is if you’ve only been exposed to Trump presidencies.

  • You never have control over your childhood, but you have control over your life. My dad was the unemotional 1950’s style dad, but my mom was a 1970’s style loving mom, so I had at a reasonable upbringing. However I feel the real win was in creating my own family with the right partner and raising kids in a much more loving environment. Create your own corner of the world and give your kids the love and care you never had. It’s not a replacement for what you’ve missed in your own life, but in it’s own way, it’s even better because you’re passing it on to the next generation. It will also help heal your own wounds.

My 3 kids are all teenagers now and I’m going to be releasing them on the world pretty soon and even now I still go around at night and each kid and I have our little routines of hugging each other and saying good night to each other. I’m happy and I feel lucky that I’ve been able to give them a happy supportive home to grown in. And in the end, what more can you ask for?

  • So… Over the phone doesn’t count? Texting doesn’t count? Email? Those don’t count? I would think that in this day and age texting would be the normal way to ask a girl out for a first date.

You know it’s REALLY hard for someone not super social to ask a girl out in person. I’m 50 and i think I’ve never asked a girl out for a first date in person… But then again, I am an introverted nerd so that’s probably to be expected. Hell, I asked the girl I ended up marrying out over email…

  • I’m glad, but I’m still pretty damn irritated that we’re all seemingly “ok” with the fact that we just have “liberal” and “conservative” judges.

The thing I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older is that the difference between liberal and conservative in the US is almost more a question of how we think rather than what we think. When I was younger I thought it was simply that conservative people had one set of values and liberals another, but that’s flat out wrong.

The way information is presented to a conservative in their media is much different from how information is presented to a liberal is their media. This leads to a difference in how people think (or maybe the difference was there to begin with and they self selected their media of choice). Try having a conversation with a person of the opposite political persuasion, it’s really hard because you both try to convert the argument to your own structure. Both people end up arguing over the structure more than the issue because once the structure has been agreed upon, the topic almost answers itself.

Once you realize that “liberal” and “conservative” is the way someone thinks and not just if they root for team R or team D, it’s much easier to come to terms that judges are “liberal” or “conservative” at a more intrinsic level.
