  • Honestly, I mostly trust them. I did feel they went too easy on some corpos, especially nvidia with series 50, but also amd and iirc they barely said anything about the Intel gen13/14 issues. Their attitude towards lower-end hardware is also a bit annoying, especially alex’s. However they do have great retro reviews for both tech and games, and john’s fascination with older tech is infectious. And I love that they have a positive attitude towards linux gaming and privacy in general, unlike many other channels. I wish them lots of luck with this newfound independence.

  • Two months into his term, Romania’s new president, Nicușor Dan, has chosen his first hill to die on. No, it’s not an ardent fight against the government’s catastrophic austerity measures, even though these contradict Dan’s explicit campaign promise that VAT would not be raised.

I’m not sure I like this tone, it reads like a propaganda piece. For one, the auaterity measures cannot be catastrophic because to my knowledge they haven’t been applied yet. Also only a fool would’ve believed the VAT declaration was anything but bullshit.

Dan has decided to make his first public and legal presidential intervention by repeatedly challenging a new law project that would increase penalties for promoting and distributing fascist and far-right materials.

IANAL but I think we already had laws against far-right discourse, not sure why more were needed. Of course it would’ve been nice if those laws had been enforced in the first place.

After an eventful electoral season decided through lawfare, the independent mayor of Bucharest appeared as a centrist, liberal, pro-European savior who stopped the fall of yet another country to extremist rule.

He’s not a savior and he did not stop shit and I bet both him and the PM know they are expendable. Forty-five fucking percent of people voted for a ridiculously populist, pro-russian candidate because he promised them the sky. These people will become even more enraged after the austerity measures so Dan and Bolojan will have at most 4 years, if not less, to smooth things over somewhat. After that, jury’s out on where this country’s headed.

  • This whole article is goddamn infuriating:

“We’re very used to proving our age in lots of different areas of life at the moment, and it makes sense that we do so more assertively when it comes to online activity,” he said.

“I think people actually think it’s pretty weird that you are age checked when you want to buy a can of Monster, but you’re not age checked when you access certain material online.”

No one that is sane thinks that is weird, peter. No one. If anything they think the new age verification is weird.

Chris Sherwood, chief executive of children’s charity the NSPCC, said Friday’s new rules mean services “can no longer evade their duty for protecting children”.

It is NOT THE SERVICE’S DUTY TO PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN. IT’S THE PARENTS’!

Derek Ray-Hill, interim head of the Internet Watch Foundation, meanwhile welcomed the new rules for sites allowing porn but said “there is still more to be done”.

But of course there is. Derek wants to know everything about your kinks when you log in.

Many of the sites which operate age verification services say they do not retain ID, videos or images required for them to carry out age checks for any longer than necessary.

Which can mean six fucking months for all we know.

Anyway, I welcome the age of paper porn and VPNs in The UK.

  • Yeah, we’ve always had a few million sympathizers, usually people that were far better off before 1989. Add to that that all the millions that left the country, sprinkle some well placed propaganda and you get yourself a huge mass of authoritarians. Almost forgot - the young generation that tilts left after being faced with late stage capitalism and looking only at the positives of the old regime. I will admit that I’m somewhat doubtful of the poll as 66% seems excessive, but it’s definitely a large chunk of the population.
