  • There’s definitely nuance though, albeit it always comes down to self control anyway.

I choose when i engage with lemmy. I limit what i see on lemmy. I feel more in control and therefore more thoughtful of how i social the media.

I keep my phone on silent. I hide all notifications besides texts from loved ones/work. You have to call me twice in a row to make it make a noise.

Choosing when and how you engage with your phone vs letting the phone and companys choose when they engage with you definitely helps prevent a lot of the downsides of it all. (Also less algorithm stuff. More manually searching for what i want to spend my time doing)

Only social accounts i have are lemmy / discord with direct friends i know. Its helped me a lot.

  • Reddit melts down after every release. Idk if thats indicative of bad launches every time, or if we’ve just trained reddit to moan every time something new happens.

I myself couldnt play much last night due to that crash that they fixed 5hrs~ after launch (which tbf is pretty quick) so i figured id just call it a night and instead enjoy my time this weekend on it.

Huntress / spear skills felt fun and fast, but a little weak. (They apparently already nerfed a ton of hp off early mobs)

I definitely enjoy the slower leveling pace more than endgame (at least last patch)

If poe1 had WASD controls id enjoy it more too i think.

Either way, love PoE(1&2). Its such a refreshing game compared to a few other aprg’s. Probably closest to scratch the impossible itch of nostalgia-brain diablo2.

My response to google or any of their adjacents is “wait people are seeing ads?”

Even though i know that yes, the majority do just let the ads blare into their brain. I just don’t engage with them to a point that it surprises me people still have energy to complain about em.

Recently told one of my friends about ublock and he was flabbergasted. He’d been just raw dogging the internet since its creation. Was more surprised he never stopped to think “maybe it doesn’t have to be like this.”

  • Precisely. Some folks role play ‘normal’ people in public to make it easier. Others rp as ‘crazy’ people to make you keep your distance.

When a book stops just being a ‘book’ and instead becomes ‘lord of the rings’, that’s when cover-judging no longer applies.

In that same way, a person becomes a friend/coworker/family. Until that happens, the only thing you have is the cover.

  • Late to the party but i went from expressvpn > nord > mullvad and then have been with mullvad for a few years now.

I know mullvad works because it breaks a lot of sites that dont like that they cant identify me / are blocking mullvads external IP’s. Nord’s ad campaign and ease of use always felt vaguely ‘too good’ to feel like i was really obfuscated (although i know that doesnt make my gut feeling correct either)

Either way, yeah mullvad is amazing, cheap, and hasnt given me a single reason yet to question it.

Hope the same goes for you!
