I mean, fair enough I guess, but asking for all this information from someone just to ask a question or give a comment feels off. Like that ICE tracking site that got compromised, I visited it a couple weeks ago and immediately noped out because it was obviously sus, this feels similar. Maybe just a false alarm in my head which is why I ask, because I learned my e-paranoia from watching y’all anyway.
Asking for full name and a street address just to send a comment sets off the opsec alarm in my brain. Any time I see someone asking for far more information than is strictly necessary makes me suspicious.
I’m getting more deeply involved in my community, such as it is, and the network of mutual aid groups here.
And yes it’s full of white libs, and no there’s not any revolutionary potential but fuck, man, what else is there to do? I gotta believe that a revolution is possible someday, even here, although I know I’ll never live to see it. But until then, the working class has to keep surviving somehow.
Anecdotally, it happens that I used to have frequent, close interactions with a boomer executive who loved AI. From what I could tell, he used it extensively for his own job which appeared to primarily be vibes-based nonsense to begin with. This bled over into the rest of his predictably vibes-based nonsense life, where he’d use ChatGPT to come up with political talking points to break out at lunch or help decide what junk to put in his next twice-weekly Amazon order. There was this time where I overheard him talking on the phone to his nephew who had been struggling with depression and he said something like “have you considered talking to ChatGPT about this?”
Anyway, the point being that these executives seem to live very vibes-based, consequence-free lives to begin with so of course they never see a downside to AI.
Yeesh. But hey maybe this is just one of those moments where we (the collective US left) have to really get our digital shit rocked by the feds a few times until we re-learn opsec the hard way.
