Agreed, it’s a bit of shame because I like the idea of GNOME but the execution and project priorities are just terrible.

LXQT is also good for people who want a Qt based enviroment but don’t like kwin.
*BSD is looking better and better.
Agreed in the long term, linux is becoming a mess imo.
Honestly not surprised, GNOME has been tying itself to systemD for years and this was inevtiable. Won’t be surprised if Void and other non-systemD distros take the same path.
Probably within the next ten years, but not now. More geography based political movements are needed, and in turn those movements need to offer something to people (jobs, better economy, reduced cost of living, etc.), not just rhetoric.
Obviously
Few reasons why it became unpopular on a political level
If you want to save the planet you will have to start at the local level and practice regenerative agriculture.
Polls show that voters don’t actually prioritize decarbonization and, crucially, aren’t willing to pay much to bring it about.
Axe fossil fuel subsidies and replace them with green technologies like algae fuel grown with wastewater. So much of climate activism got pigeonholed into “just use an electric car bro” and trying to sustain pointless consumerism and terrible agriculture practices.
Edit 2: Fox is apparently reporting that he’s admitted to the hospital, maybe he’s a snowball that survived hell? Probably for an autopsy, no way he survived that shot.
It would be faster, but note that eMMC is the worst kind of solid state drive out there and you should replace it as soon as possible, or at least don’t store anything critical on it.
Just mentioned SystemD in another post of mine.
In the case of GNOME they take their whole toolkit with them. Obviously you can switch DEs but it’s still sad and annoying to see. From 5 years ago but still holds up: https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/horrible-gtk3-gnome-ui-design-is-leaking-into-ubuntu-mate-applications-in-20-04/22028/58.
Obviously not blatant money/data harvesting like with big tech companies, but corporate strong-arming has been done on Linux (systemD) and can be done again. Granted it’s much harder on Linux (in the case of my SystemD example there are distros like Void or Artix) but there is still a risk imo.
Take with a grain of salt because the steam hardware survey has historically had sample size issues.
Very nice to see, only worry is that Linux will get enshittified (primarily by the GNOME people).
Raspberry Pis these days are overpriced, a cheaper mini PC/old Optiplex will do fine.
Where is the money going to come from? Outside of a service economy California doesn’t have much.
