  • I think you’re giving OP too much credit tbh.

That said, it is definitely an issue that affects all of us, not just men. Totally agree there. The fact that some men think it’s exclusively a male issue is of course silly and can be a problem if they end up falling into these Tate-esk parts of the internet, but when it comes to men being lonely, I do take their issues seriously and I’m not so quick to sit and mock them for being in the situation they are in.

I would also be interested in seeing some studies about how loneliness affects both genders and in what way. Maybe there is in fact a higher number of men who suffer from loneliness than women. Maybe it’s the other way around. Maybe it is 50/50. I don’t know because I haven’t looked into it.

But no I don’t agree with the OP because the point OP was making wasn’t that everybody is lonely, it was that men who don’t align with her ideology are lonely because they can’t get laid and I think that is a very reductive way to contribute to this specific conversation. It is people like OP who actually helps push lonely guys into the arms of the manosphere and that is why I react harshly to her behavior.

  • It’s still a stupid way to look at it.

First of all: male feminists can indeed feel entitled to women as well as men who aren’t feminist can just feel socially lonely and not being obsessed with women who don’t date them.

I think it is dumb to have leftist and feminism as a criteria for a man being a good person or not. It is a reductive way to think about the issue and very tribalistic.

Second of all: There are many people out there, not just men, who aren’t obsessed with the culture war, who still struggle with loneliness and the problem is multi faceted. Off the top of my head these are some of the issues I spot in the developed world that causes the loneliness epidemic:

    • long workdays and lower pay than in the past. People are exhausted and poorer than they were in the past. There is not much energy left after work to go be a productive, social member of society.

    • phones and social media. Today it is easier to connect with people than ever before, but it is also a time waster and it opens the door to people forming friendships and romantic connections with people who are geographically very far away.

    • this leads to physical loneliness. I am partially guilty of this myself. Most of my close friends live very far away from me and I don’t get to see them often as a result. I miss having friends close by that I can just walk down the street to hang out with or go on picnics with. I don’t spend time with people in my local area because I don’t have as much in common with them, nor do I have the energy to form new friendships when I’m off the clock.

    • the lack of investment in local communities. People don’t want to invest time and effort into their local communities by volunteering for clubs and gatherings. Most people would love to have these clubs where people meet and hang out, but no one want to carry their load to make it work.

    • this is of course a mix of the aforementioned exhaustion from long work days but it is also due to the individualistic ideology that has gradually replaced the communal ideology that used to be much more prominent back in the day. There is no willingness to sacrifice one’s own comfort for the comfort of the collective. “Screw you, I got mine” is a very in fashion mindset and we all do it to some extent.

    • institutions. I like institutions as a concept and I think they are important to have, but I also have to admit that the more institutionalized our society has become, the wider the gap has become between us. Someone is mentally ill? Throw them in a clinic. Someone is getting old? Off to the retirement home? Having kids? To kindergarten and daycare they go while mommy and daddy work themselves to the bone. In the olden days the community took care of each other’s sick, elderly and the kids. It wasn’t perfect then either, the tendency to just drop burdens off on institutions has contributed to us distancing ourselves from the familial and community based system that we used to live by for thousands of years.

    • governments prioritizing economic growth and technological advancement over families. This is just a fact. South Korea is the prime example of what happens when an advanced society systematically prioritizes growth over stability. The encouragements to get educated and get a career and climb the ladder and push push push for excellence utterly destroys and isolates youths from forming important lifelong friendships and romantic relationships. They do not have the time. Also, due to the cost of living crisis which is part of the growth priority, there is close to zero actual investment in giving people the time, breathing room and finances to start a family.

These are just the first few issues that pop into my mind as part of the bigger issue with the loneliness epidemic.

To boil this issue down to “men outside of leftist and feminist circles are just mad they can’t get laid” is so fucking stupid I don’t even have words for it. My point still stands.

  • I think it is funny how you post this, then in the comments deny that this is the type of opinion someone like you, a proud leftist feminist have, and that it is actually most men who think like this.

depends on your circles. in feminist and leftist circles, it usually means the first but most men outside of those circles use it just to mean “im not getting the dates i am ENTITLED to 😡"

If that is the case, why did you make this post? What was the purpose of your post if this isn’t how you think about lonely men? What did you want to achieve with it? I can tell you, that you’re not going achieve anything positive.

I assume you’d like to be treated with respect and compassion yourself since you have that blåhaj attached to you. That respect and compassion is a two way street.

The fact that SOME men feel entitled to women doesn’t mean that most men think or feel like that. The loneliness many men (and women for that matter) feel is very real and it is a far bigger and more complex issues than just “lawl, can’t get laid”.

I personally know what it is like to be mistreated by very bad men. It left deep scars on me that I have to carry for life. However, I promised myself that I would not become a man hater back when I was going through my trauma. I refused to let a couple of asshole determine how I would meet the world and the men in it. It would be unfair to those who had never done a thing to me and it would be unfair to myself because I was better than that.

You too are better than this and you either have to start treat all people with respect and compassion if you want the same in return or you need to own that it is in fact not “most men” who think like this, it is you who think like this. Stand by your convictions and own them or change course because you know that what you’re putting out into the world right now is ugly and reductive.

  • From Wikipedia:

Cecil Houston, the manager of the KSC office of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, set up a three-way conference call with Morton Thiokol in Utah and the KSC in Florida on the evening of January 27 to discuss the safety of the launch.

Morton Thiokol engineers expressed their concerns about the effect of low temperatures on the resilience of the rubber O-rings. As the colder temperatures lowered the elasticity of the rubber O-rings, the engineers feared that the O-rings would not be extruded to form a seal at the time of launch. The engineers argued that they did not have enough data to determine whether the O-rings would seal at temperatures colder than 53 °F (12 °C), the coldest launch of the Space Shuttle to date.  During this discussion, Lawrence Mulloy, the NASA SRB project manager, said that he did not accept the analysis behind this decision, and demanded to know if Morton Thiokol expected him to wait until April for warmer temperatures.  Morton Thiokol employees Robert Lund, the Vice President of Engineering, and Joe Kilminster, the Vice President of the Space Booster Programs, recommended against launching until the temperature was above 53 °F (12 °C).

When the teleconference prepared to hold a recess to allow for private discussion amongst Morton Thiokol management, Allan J. McDonald, Morton Thiokol’s Director of the Space Shuttle SRM Project who was sitting at the KSC end of the call,  reminded his colleagues in Utah to examine the interaction between delays in the primary O-rings sealing relative to the ability of the secondary O-rings to provide redundant backup, believing this would add enough to the engineering analysis to get Mulloy to stop accusing the engineers of using inconclusive evidence to try and delay the launch.  When the call resumed, Morton Thiokol leadership had changed their opinion and stated that the evidence presented on the failure of the O-rings was inconclusive and that there was a substantial margin in the event of a failure or erosion. They stated that their decision was to proceed with the launch.

When McDonald told Mulloy that, as the onsite representative at KSC he would not sign off on the decision, Mulloy demanded that Morton Thiokol provide a signed recommendation to launch; Kilminster confirmed that he would sign it and fax it from Utah immediately, and the teleconference ended.  Mulloy called Arnold Aldrich, the NASA Mission Management Team Leader, to discuss the launch decision and weather concerns, but did not mention the O-ring discussion; the two agreed to proceed with the launch.

Dunno about you, but it sounds a lot like NASA, especially Lawrence Mulloy, practically twisted Morton Thiokol’s arms until one of them (Joe Kilminster) relented and signed off on the launch. Mulloy even lied by omission at the end there to get his way. I wonder how he could sleep at night after this stunt.

  • The issue was that they knew there were issues with the shuttle and had been warned by several engineers about launching in the cold weather they were having at the time, but NASA ignored them and sent the Challenger on its way anyways. It’s been awhile so I forget the details of exactly what it was that was wrong, but I think it was the metal in some screws that wasn’t able to deal with the differences in temperatures and the engineers said shit would go wrong if they didn’t replace them and nobody listened. It was a very preventable disaster that only happened due to laziness and impatience on NASA’s part.

    • it was the rubber in the O-ring seals that couldn’t handle the differences in temperature.

  • Could be that Ahmed is just his father’s name as Arabs tend to give their kids the middle names of the fathers before them. It can sometimes create very, very, very, VERY long names if the chain isn’t broken. Have heard of cases where the man had like 50 middle names. It is kind of crazy.

Of course, that doesn’t explain why he would decide to not have his last name on the certificate if it really is his, but this could be an explanation for the name.

  • I have several things that interested me and became popular, but I didn’t hate on the new fans. At most I sometimes missed the feeling of having this thing that was a bit obscure and in case of channels on youtube, the intimacy of interacting with the creator and other subscribers was nice. But I can’t hate on something I like becoming popular.

As for concrete examples, I do remember subbing to this small gaming channel with 9000 subs called Markiplier back in the day.

I subbed to OKI Weird Stories when he had like 600ish subs.

I subbed to Creepcast before it had any videos on it, but that one is cheating since both meatcanyon and wendigoon were already very popular. Still, it’s been a bit nuts seeing the podcast explode in popularity. I even know people irl who listen to it.

Currently I follow a small channel, also podcast format, called The Daydream Arcade that focuses on reading reddit stories, but the hosts are two friends, who bring some warmth and personality to the format which is nice. For me, I stick around becuase I really like their friendship and their personalities. I’m also a older than the both of them and feel a bit big-sister-protective of them. I want them to grow and I believe they will because they already have 4500 subs compared to the 900 they had when I found them, but also don’t like the thought of them reaching a point of popularity where the mean assholes come crawling to tear them down.

  • I noticed that too, but I do think that the anon is talking about the remaster since he’s also talking about Windows 98 and the remaster was out in 2002 while the original game was out in 1996. I know fuck all about the production of the remake, but maybe windows 98 was all they had available to them and maybe they did draw all the textures themselves for it. It’d have to look into that, though.

  • I am genuinely shocked at how so many of you are completely ignorant to history and the context within. This would be like me smugly crossing my arms and concluding that all the people who tried to make things better during ww2 were somehow shitty people and/or less important figures than those who came after because they had to step up during hard times.

Do you people think that good leaders only count when things are going swimmingly? Are you going to blame whomever comes after trump, who will try to fix things, for the shit trump did?

  • Okay, so you’re just going to completely ignore everything I said and cherry pick me quoting you. What is with you people?

Lincoln was the one to make the difficult decisions to do away with an inhumane practice among other things and he wanted a united America. He did pretty much all the dirty work when the country was the most divided and least harmonious. Anyone who came after him and continued the work he started is a valid president in his own right, but Lincoln was the base for that future and part of why he is so remembered.

I still stand by that Lincoln isn’t mostly known for the Civil War and getting shot. That may be true to you, but where I live and by most people who knows about him, he is famous for being the president who ended slavery and stood up against a cruel practice that had been protected and encouraged by the government for ages before him.

I do not understand why you are so insistent on poo-pooing on his legacy and ignoring the points I made. You don’t know your own history.

  • You may want to ask yourself why Lincoln was shot and what the civil war was about and who started it and why? You may want to look into what Lincolns actions were throughout his presidency.

I can give you a hint: he was trying to unify people across political divides and disagreements and he is largely known for being the president who ended slavery and unified the USA. Whenever I have heard about Lincoln, that is what I have heard way before his assassination and the civil war and I have never stepped foot in America.

To boil Lincoln down to only being known for the civil war and his own assassination at best shows bad faith and at worst a terrible lack of understanding of your own history, in case you are an American yourself.

  • A strong leader who can unite across the political divide. Reading full sentences matters. You can cherry pick any part of any sentence and twist it into whatever you want if your attitude is to not actually engage with a comment, but just to smugly point and roll your eyes at things.

For what it is worth, I personally have a hard time seeing how things won’t get violent in the end, but I just wanted to share my awe of my boyfriend’s ability to hold on to these values even when things are burning. I think it is admirable because I’m not like that myself.

And please stop yourself with your “oh honey”. What a belittling way to engage with someone.

  • My boyfriend keeps saying that America needs a strong leader who can unite the people across the political divide like Lincoln did. That Trump was a divider for all people and he spreads divisiveness and hate whereever he goes and that most of the divisiveness we have today is because of Trump. He took smaller issues and poured gasoline on them and now we are here.

He says the way out of this nightmare is not a violent revolution, but a leader who can unite the people and bring focus back to building a society that is better for all.

He doesn’t want Americans to lose their humanity because of one insane asshole. I am sometimes in awe of his cold head and warm heart. I try to remind myself of his words whenever I hear the next new retarded thing Trump has done overseas and how it’s gonna affect not just America but the rest of us too. I go a bit feral sometimes, ngl.

This reminds me of a particularly hilarious scene from The Death of Stalin where they have all the country’s best doctors lined up to save Stalin after his heart attack, but they are all bumbling idiots and Stalins men get angry about how incompetent they are until someone reminds them that Stalin literally killed all the best and most capable doctors in the soviet union out of paranoia.

    And so, Stalin dies.
