Lack of an algorithm makes finding new content much more difficult. And most people don’t want to spend time actively looking for stuff, they just want to log in, laugh at funny memes and look at pieces of art.

1. Because historically this has been ineffective. Nobody knew Harry Potter or hunger games would become so popular. Nobody could have predicted Godzilla movies would make such a comeback. That’s why you need more than one creator or entity to produce such things

2. In their own personal projects of course. But if you want a musician to do music for your project or you want to use an artist for something, they’ll inevitably ask for something in exchange.

3. How would they decide what gets produced and what doesn’t? Which clothing brands get funding and which ones don’t? Which authors receive money for their books and which ones don’t? Which YouTubers and streamers? Inevitably you’ll have a shortage of products because trends change easily and it’ll take time for the central government to adapt.

1. Not going to work unless the government has somehow unlimited resources. Otherwise why would they spend money and resources on something they don’t know how popular would it be?

2. What reward do those independent creators receive in exchange of doing their art? Do they just work for free?

3. And sometimes they succeed and other times they don’t. In a planned economy you’d essentially be stuck with whatever the government monopoly has decided to manufacture and you won’t have any other choice.

Corporations are run very differently from countries.

What happens when you don’t like the product that the state is offering?

What about independent artists and creators?

Figuring out what things people will like is next to impossible.

Non market economies are never going to work, because you’ll be essentially creating one giant monopoly and leaving people without the possibility of doing things differently

And that’s not getting into how unpredictable people are, products that have been predicted to fail end up becoming very successful, and the opposite also happens

I mean, if Europe cannot guarantee the peace and stability of their allies or themselves, why should other countries trust them over China for example?

There’s still a lot of beef with Europe in both Latin America and Africa. Even if you ignore colonialism, Europe’s cold war era track record in those areas is… Not good to say the least.

What’s the guarantee that Europe will actually bring peace and stability and not just install far-right dictators when it’s convenient for them?

The irony with this is that Lemmy was founded by communists and it follows a lot of communist principles.

The real reason is that German unification was done poorly and it benefited West Germany in a very disproportionate manner.

Most people and jobs migrated to west Germany and East Germany was left to rot.

Couple that with the fact that communism/socialism became a big taboo in Europe and capitalism’s faults were completely ignored, even when it was visibly failing.

When you ban and stigmatize the left so much, people will turn to the only side that actually acknowledges something is wrong, and in this case, only the far right has done so.

People expect to pay a carpenter or a plumber for their services, why shouldn’t entertainers and content creators be allowed to get paid for their work?

It is kinda bad. Especially when it comes to finding content or getting noticed

Like, man, you are on a decentralized network run by volunteers who don’t want to be monetized. You want to enjoy the benefits of socialism but at the same time complain about how bad it is and promote capitalism.
