This is total alarmist misinformation. The “evidence of terrorism” was not “using Signal” or “carrying a first aid kit”, it was taking part in an armed assault on an immigration facility where a dozen people set off fireworks and shot a police officer with an AR-15.

The prosecution used the presence of the first aid kit they carried during their armed assault, along with actual messages (not metadata) from a Signal chat to make the case that the attackers planned on using violence.

There are a lot of problems with this case, IMO the most dangerous part here is that adds legitimacy the (false) idea that “antifa” is an organization that exists. Something the Trump administration has been struggling to prove. This X post takes small details out of context.

1. Don’t trust anything ever posted to X. Especially something that discourages the use of private messaging apps.

Libelec (kodi) is fine if only playing local media but its use for anything else except realdebrid is extremely lacking. On the plus side it will run great on an Rpi5 and if you go that route you can probably even use your TV remote because Libelec has excellent CEC support.

Jellyfin/Plex is something your TV also probably has an app for, so you wouldn’t even need a media center, just a media server.

Plasma Bigscreen is making slow gains, but in a couple of years will probably be the definitive Linux media center PC.

Also a bit unconventional, but Bazzite can load directly into Steam’s big picture mode. From there you could set shortcuts for Jellyfin or Plex HTPC.

Oh I fully agree, but for someone who needs to make money, it makes more sense to post to multiple places including PeerTube instead of just PeerTube.

First of all this book is excellent, but it makes the opposite argument that OP claims. The entire point of the book is to illustrate that there is no “natural” way for humans to organize, and throughout history there is evidence that all manner of societies existed contemporaneously. Something Graber does repeatedly is highlight the many instances that totalitarian monarchies existed in the same geographic area at the same time as egalitarian democracies.

The impression he drills in over and over is that if people want a specific way to organize they must make it happen.

Definitely Bazzite, I also love Zorin but IMO that’s more an “Install on your dad’s laptop” OS than something for someone who knows how to install an OS.

I know you’re getting a million suggestions and to be clear- nothing is wrong with Mint, but I recommend Fedora Kinoite as a first distro if you’re coming from Windows. KDE is going to be more familiar and the way the backend is designed makes it basically impossible to meaningfully break.

I was never big into youtube but when I deleted Instagram all my friends just started messaging me the good memes instead. It’s great.

I honestly wouldn’t say much has changed in a mental health way but also… not much has changed. So I have zero desire to download it again.
