I think you’re right but I also have to imagine the old. users are disproportionately contributing quality parts and replies to the niche communities that make reddit “sticky”.

I did the exactly same for the same reason. I think Zorin is well made and great for someone who is not good with computer, but it is probably too simple for someone who is advanced enough to know what Linux is.

These days I recommend Kinoite or Bazzite for someone looking to ditch Windows; but they’re so similar the only question is if they’re planning on gaming with a controller.

For newbies ditching windows I like to recommend the Kinoite version of Fedora, it’s immutable and basically impossible to break, and apps are installed from the “app store” so it’s super easy for someone to understand.

I don’t think you’re in the wrong to say that code nobody has reviewed has not proven safe, and a brand new project (of any kind) is not proven reliable. A brand new big project that’s purely vibe coded is every red flag of unsafe and unsustainable.

Yes exactly, my potentially hot take is that twenty years from now we’ll look at immutability as the tipping point that sent Linux mainstream on desktop.

I think Fedora Kinoite is the best distro for someone coming from Windows due to KDE’s flexibility and similarity to Windows and it’s immutability. Default Ubuntu is great for people familliar with MacOS, and it can even be themed to be basically indistinguishable.

Signal is more like WhatsApp, Element/Matrix is aiming to be more like Telegram or Discord.
