We use NAT all the time in industrial settings. Makes it so you can have select devices communicate with the plant level network, while keeping everything else common so that downtime is reduced when equipment inevitably fails.

Which “solar isn’t good enough” crowd are you talking about? I have never heard of anyone saying that we should build less solar capacity just because a 100% solar powered grid may not work best in all areas. Rooftop solar especially is a non-issue for anyone who wants to move off fossil fuels.
The only time I’ve seen people arguing against solar is in locations where winter drops the solar energy production for half the year. Even then, people are talking about grid scale installs and alternatives, not rooftop.
That’s much harder to do, both technically and (more importantly) politically. A lot of big businesses rely on VPNs.
You missed my point completely. It’s not specifically about carbon emissions, it’s about all the environmental issues, and the personal responsibility we all have to do what we can to solve it. There are thousands of little things that individuals can do. Each of those people doing a thing on their own adds up. I get annoyed when comments like yours discourage those little actions. If all 8 billion people on the planet would do little things like recycle properly, things like the Pacific garbage patch wouldn’t exist.
But hey! Remember to separate your recyclables! We need to do something to help the planet.
This mentality is incredibly irritating. There is no silver bullet of any sort that is going to solve our many environmental issues. The actual solution is going to be an accumulation of thousands of small “meaningless” actions. So quit with the nihilistic bullishit.
I’m with you on that one. Cutting off energy exports is the kind of drastic action that the feds would absolutely be in contact with him about.
If you wanted me to pronounce it that way, you should have spelled it that way.
I feel as though the entire point of this was to make Canadians feel ashamed and discouraged on the day before our national holiday. And in that Trump was successful.
The fuck he was. I feel no shame, nor discouragement whatsoever.
All Trump “won” was getting Carney to scrap a policy that wasn’t even in force yet, effectively gaining nothing. And there’s nothing stopping us from just reimplementing the same policy under some other name that Trump’s dumb ass won’t even notice.
Should make this a province wide rule. It’s awesome having little corner stores, bakeries, coffee shops, etc right in the residential neighborhood.
Doubtful on this one. Keeping the ban in place lets him play up the “belligerent everyman/Captain Canada” image him and his base love so very much. The flip flopping is reserved for shady deals for his developer buddies that he knew were wrong and was just hoping no one would notice.
There’s no government run wineries. Buying from Ontario isn’t “giving Ford money”.
Have people really never left a job for non-acrimonious reasons?
“Capitalism” isn’t some self aware entity that you can blame all evils on. It’s humans all the way down. And it’s not even the cartoon evil type of humans; those are rare. Everyone responsible at each step of the way is terrifyingly ordinary.
There are other services the government provides that cannot (and should not) be operated for profit (ie healthcare).
I already said this.
Parcel delivery is a service that can be run for a profit (by real couriers like UPS, FEDEX, etc, not those bullishit Amazon couriers). There are other services the government provides that cannot (and should not) be operated for profit (ie healthcare). I would much rather my tax dollars go towards that, rather than operating Canada Post at a loss.
Tax revenue is a fixed size pool of money. Canada Post may not need to make a profit, but it does need to break even. There are many other things that money needs to be spent on.
This whole saga is so incredibly frustrating. You have a situation where things have to change. The management is trying to restructure because the money does not exist to maintain the status quo. The Union refuses to budge, and based on this article, their best solution is to legislate away the competition? Even if that were to happen, it’s not Canada Post management that will be making that decision, and it’s effects would not be immediate. Does the union just plan to sit at home forever?
Yeah. It’s not like the majority of North American towns are going to have the budget for this, and the higher levels of government don’t give two shits, so it would be falling on the homeowners to get it installed.
I doubt that fast charging will ever be a thing in residential settings, regardless of what kind of grid upgrades they do. That kind of DC voltage will kill too many diy type homeowners.
This is equipment that uses all statically addressed devices. And ignoring the fact that IPv6 is simply unsupported on most of them, there are duplicate machines that share programs. Regardless of IP version you need NAT anyway if you want to be able to reach each of the duplicates from the plant network.
