Sort of a twist of fate. People not in the USA are using USA based AI services and thus using USA electricity. The irony is that it just balances out to a small degree the over size environmental impact the USA is having on the climate causing people in other countries to also suffer with AC limitations. I guess what goes round comes round.
This is even worse that the current system as it essentially means flat tax regardless of your income. This means a poor person is paying the same income tax through purchasing items at a store who will be on the hook for the taxes so naturally will pass on to you and at the same time a rich person will pay the same price and tax. Further since it is centralized all the same issues of corruption and exploitation exist even if the intent today is good.

I have not stepped inside a game store in at least 15 years as there just has been no need anymore with downloads.
Xerox has been in Canada even longer but they are still an American company regardless. Just like Nintendo of America is still a Japanese company.

That is what I first submitted too. My passport which has no address. Then they said I need to send ID with an address so I sent my drivers license. Then they said it has to be a current address, but I moved out of country so how would I have an address on my ID. Then they suggested my Notice of Assessment which has a family members mailing address on it and that worked but by this point it was too late.
What was the issue for you?
Mine got majorly delayed as I was asked to show ID with my Canadian mailing address on it, but like most who have moved out of country I was using a family members mailing address. Of course my Canadian IDs had my last home address and not my family members as why would it? I moved out of the country. We went back and forth with each reply taking Elections Canada 5-7 days. I ended up filling my taxes with my family members address and sent them my NOA which worked but it was too late by the time I received the package.

Same here. What was your hold up? Mine was my ID did not match my mailing address as of course not, I left the country and cannot get my Canadian ID updated with a foreign address? I am so disappointed in the process. Does not even make sense. I get they want to put you in the right riding, but you literally moved out of the country and are not in a riding. They need to inspect their process as this one is broken.
Would have been 2 more if Elections Canada did not fumble sending us the out of country voting package. Sure there are many others in the same boat.
The same could be said about any Union including the USA as not all states are treated equally.
You mean you are done with the US and you are not joining the EU and not all Canadians feel this way.

I too have been in the inside and I was one of those types who fought to do the right thing. The reason was much more simple to understand than this article…companies are run by sociopaths, psychopaths, Narcissists and doing the right thing is not their motivation. That said, while it might be easy to point the finger at them, they only get their power as soon as many kiss their ass and accept the wrong. You know…sort of like what is happening in the USA and most other country’s. We have a massive problem and we are not even really talking about it. Instead some want to blame capitalism and while sure it is part of the problem, you better believe and centralized human group has and will suffer from the same issues to varying degrees.

I think you have to pick the low hanging fruit and go from there. For instance, we are here and already have made a small, but measurable dent to Reddit traffic. Imagine if everyone came over here, Reddit would no longer be viable as a profit company. Google would collapse if we all supported Peer Tube. Of course these are not going to change the world, but I am convinced if/when decentralization gets traction, we will find ways to implement it everywhere it makes sense. It is about balance as there are benefits to centralization and I am not suggesting everyone is decentralized, but right now the scales are out of balance and we have some tools to start to rebalance. We just have to want it. Well maybe need it which seems to be coming.
I echo this a developer with a top app on the Meta Quest. My USA sales have fallen off a cliff, while other regions like Asia and Europe have increased a little.
