I sort of do too, but I think I’ve gone so far in that direction that I’ve reached sort of Zen state with regard to politics where I just accept that this is just how the world is and we’ll see what happens on the other side.
Global vibes are so weird. Four years of fear mongering by libs about Trump being Hitler, then they get owned so hard they just acquiesce. Tech bros just fully embracing this weird neoreactionary ideology (technofeudalism, blockchain fascism, whatever) embodied by Trump. Assad finally goes and paves the way for a new Mideast. “AI” just pumping out pure fever dream slop and misinformation at an unregulated and alarming rate.
I am analyzing the situation. Assad’s Syria has been toppled and replaced with NATO proxies. Hamas is contained and Gaza is virtually uninhabitable. Hezbollah’s leadership is decimated. Iran is losing allies left and right, and they realize it. I don’t think “the worst” (whatever that means) is going to happen. Just that the Resistance, as it was understood even just two years ago, is crippled. October 7 was Sinwar throwing the stick at the drone sent to execute him. A desperate, defiant act. I’m sure it will live on in some form or another. But I think in the near-to-medium term, the Resistance has been defeated. I don’t see how it can be viewed any other way without flat out lying to oneself.
Increasingly starting to think that Sinwar’s death was a sort of metaphor for the Resistance as a whole.
it really is starting to feel like they’re just going all in with all their proxy projects in a gamble to contain China or any sort of alternative hegemony in the world.
Butlerian Jihad against thinking machines now
Basically what Frank already said here, the idea seemed to be that it was a period of reform and violent upheaval between factions of humans, rather than what’s presented in Prophecy and the prequel books (humans vs evil robots).
The hints of the Butlerian Jihad we got in Dune are way more interesting and relevant than the generic “MACHINE WARS” presented in the prequel books and now the very mid HBO series. Sad!
