  • Look, I agree that everyone intentionally trying to be famous, whether it be online or as like an actor or something, needs to be aware that this behavior is a reality they need to be prepared for. BUT that doesn’t mean we ignore the weirdos online and don’t sympathize with famous people. We should still discourage people from being rude or parasocial, and it’s normal to feel bad for humans going through shitty things, regardless of how much money they make related to that. Yes, she can stop posting, but that doesn’t excuse other people’s actions, and realistically some people would continue to be weird even if she did just vanish from the internet

  • I get being afraid of going to a protest considering we have police literally saying they’ll just kill people, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get involved with those organizing the protests. See if you can get involved with the organizers of your local protests and ask them what they need for the protests. After all, those signs you see people carrying didn’t make themselves. At the very least you can call your reps and make your voice heard. Even if your reps are dems, make it clear that you want real action, not just talk. You could also talk to the people around you: at work, at the store, family members, etc. Encourage them to call their reps. If your reps aren’t actively making things worse or letting things get worse by doing nothing but fundraise (so most reps) then see if there are efforts to primary any of them and encourage everyone you know to vote in the primaries too

Like I said, I understand being afraid to go to a protest. I am too. But you have to remember that if we don’t stop Trump and a full blown fascist takeover, then things will be much, much worse and much, much harder to change

  • Yeah it’s really annoying that people have taken introvert to mean “ultra shy anxious person who hates talking to people” and extroverts to be either “everyone else” or “walks into a room and instantly is friends with everyone, has all their phone numbers, and just finished planning their 5 years of friendship party with them all.” Because people forget that it just differentiates how you recharge your social battery, they often forget that extroverts with social anxiety can and do exist. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of “introverts” are actually just socially anxious extroverts that are suffering bc they don’t really part of why they feel so shit is bc they want to socialize more

  • So, I’ll be honest, I don’t understand most of the technical stuff about lemmy. I just know it’s open source, no ads/corpos, and all the individual lemmys can interact with each other like how emails can send emails between gmail and yahoo. But what does defederate actually mean? Like how does it change things? Does it mean that people with the @lemmy.one can’t see the privacy instance anymore? And they have to change their account?

  • Sounds like I have a pretty similar office job and I used to have similar problems with the exhaustion. There’s a few things that really helped I think. The first was to be more active at work. Obviously there’s a limit to what you can do, but don’t pass up any opportunity to get up, walk around, and stretch your legs. If you can take a break/lunch outside then do that. If you have some days where you don’t have too much work to do and it kinda feels like you’re just sitting there with no sense of time, or you’re just watching videos to pass the time, try to find something to do instead. Pick up any trash/misplaced things around the office, reorganize files, have a chat with co workers. This all helps to prevent the exhaustion, I’ve found. Then, when I’m out of work, I try to have non-gaming things to do. Like family dinners on fridays. This helps me feel like I do more than just sit behind a desk all day every day, and it makes it feel like more of a treat when I do sit down to game. I don’t know if these will work for you, but they’re worth a shot if you haven’t tried them I guess
