    • razor: Koraat wedge 15/16
    • post shave: Nivea after shave balm sensitive

My first edge didn’t get half the blade. Getting the tape even was very difficult. At last I had more success without tape. I still might try tape the next time. I had 3 days of growth which gives me a lot to chop through. The wedge feels much different than a hollow. Managing the pressure needs some getting used to. I spend to much time trying to chase bbs but some spots weren’t perfect after all. Pretty good shave and no cuts. I like the after shave, I stingily got two of them in a 1 + 1 free deal.

  • Thank you. I am new indeed. As for the soap:

    • I just randomly started trying to use the razor. I didn’t buy all the things at once but slowly added things to make it work. Soap just wasn’t in line yet. I used to try to shave of an 3k edge on a razor with bad geometry honed on non-flat stones with no strop. It’s a miracle it even kind of worked. So things like a diamond plate, a 8k stone and a strop were of higher priority to me.
    • I have a lot of lines to get straight, like my sideburns and my beard so I need to see what I’m doing.
    • It costs money and my shaving budged is getting a bit low so I need to pick my poison.
    • I’m a minimalist in the weirdest ways sometimes.
    • I had a lot of trouble with my edge, so I honed a lot and tried a lot of edges. Just water gives the most direct feedback of the edge on the skin. If it’s fine with water it will be fine with any soap or oil.
    • If my fundamentals (edge and technique) are solid I might add things like shaving soap or oil in the future.
    • It’s quick. I watched a bunch of shaving videos and the lathering up part often takes up more than half of video.

I don’t think I will post often here as I only have one razor, no soaps and two basic aftershaves. So it’s not exactly the most exciting SOTD 😅

    • Razor: MERX & Co. Solingen-Wald Gamerx
    • Lather: just warm water :)
    • Post Shave: Kruidvat Aftershave Balm Sensitive

Still struggling with my edge a bit but I found out 2 layers of tape is best. 0 and 1 didn’t hold the edge at all and 3 layers seemed to much, didn’t take one to begin with. Progression is 8k > 1.5 micron strop > 0.6 micron strop. And yes I just soften my face with warm water and go, for various reasons. I just slap some on there with a washing cloth on each part before I shave there.

Decent shave, not much irritation at all today. I went against the grain immediately on the neck, felt good. Somehow that saves me irritation because I take less passes in total (I think). Went against/across the grain on the chin immediately as an experiment. Totally doable but I made a small error and cut myself. Skill issue. Looks like it would hurt but it doesn’t.

  • I can’t help but see some Nichijou similarities, this time regarding whole scenes:

    • Tatewaku thinks he is speaking with this future self, some kind of magic/supernatural event. He tries to figure out if it is real or not (badly). This is similar to when Nakanojou tried to figure out the fortune teller.
    • The scene of Tsurubishi going to the restaurant is similar to the Yukko in the coffee shop scene. They visit a shop but are taken aback by the ordering process. Now that I think of it this also includes the scene at the bakery. On a separate note I really liked the menu with the hentaigana/cursive kana calligraphy. I don’t know how accurate it really is but the general shape and flow of it looks good. Certainly one of the most beautiful calligraphy styles and not seen often in anime (the big brush type of style is seen more often).
    • The chase scene is obviously similar to the Nichijou chase scene.

  • In principle, but it did never hurt anything when I just straight up cut the power so I got the feeling that I was waiting for nothing. It wasn’t like the disk wasn’t flushed yet or anything. Maybe it is good to be extra careful when restarting a server or something similar, but for desktop usage I prefer if the init system just kills everything after a few seconds so I can go with my day. Neither is right or wrong just whatever you prefer. I like a cutthroat style in general and I accept the minor risks that come with it.

  • Watching CITY the animation and finished ARIA the origination. Aria started out average (relative to the rest of it) but then it really started hitting. Ep 9 is one of the most emotional episodes I have ever seen in my life. It did a most wonderful thing: make me tear up without making me sad. And when Alicia explained her way of thinking and acting, it just was so wonderful and wholesome. She is a sage like character. Many anime focus on the dark side of life. Others on big dreams and unreasonable success. Others on comedy and entertainment. Aria focuses on happiness and how to live life. More so than most other slice of life series.

    • With photography as a subject (pun intended) the shot composition goes pretty hard as well.
    • The opening has a little moment at the end where they hug that white thing. A similar moment can be found in one of the K-ON! openings (also Kyou-ani).
    • This episode is also longer than 24 minutes. I thought that was just for the first episode. If it consistently runs for about 27 minutes, that would be pretty rare.
    • It seems that this anime is going to be more continuous with some plot elements than Nichijou. With that I mean that even if there won’t be some kind of grand plot, the episodes do seem to build upon each other in a linear fashion instead of being mostly moments that are separate from eachother.

    • aaaaah the colours the animation aaah
    • very Nichijou like humour as expected
    • at 7:29 they employ one of my favorites: calligraphy/font annotated speech
    • the city overviews are wonderful, always like when anime zooms out
    • at 8:30 there is a split screen, I only know of Lucky Star having done that before (also Kyouani)
    • artist/editor interaction, reminds me of Gochuumon wa Usagi desuka?
    • at 10:31 the “armless form” appears, previously seen in Nichijou and Azumanga Daioh. Seen the greats but not popular broadly in anime?
    • the “action scenes” like the wine cork scene are very much like Nichijou (like the Yukko/Mio sausage scene)
    • the sections with small interludes betwixed, a la Nichijou. However the sections seem to smoothly connect to each other before going off into their own direction. This adds a lot of world building and making the location feel real and alive.
    • It is interesting to see how this fleshing out of the location continues. Another anime that takes place in a relatively small town and in which that location is quite important to whole is Aria, which does that very successfully.
    • Wako is a real wacko, god bless her soul
    • It’s EP 1 and we already have a broccoli scene. Truly Nichijou 2.0 in spirit.
