Thunderbolt is a proprietary specification by Intel and Apple, while Displayport is an open standard developed by VESA.
USB connector hardware can meet the Thunderbolt or Displayport specifications, but must conform. Most do not.

Sadly Secure Scuttlebutt Protocol is abandonware, as is it’s more scalable but far less tested successor PZP
The p2p social approach seems so necessary, but projects that actually implement it are fraught with challenges it seems.

Awesome, this is huge news.

Hmmm… somewhere in here is a solution for the Bluetooth connection prioritization/stealing quagmire but I cant sus out how.
If bluetooth audio devices would include a paired device selection function by cycling through the list of connected devices sequentially instead of auto-prioritizing either the most recent connection or the most recently paired device that would fix a lot of the Bluetooth hellscape we are in right now.

looks nice
I wish projects like this would offer simple “security profile” settings that would allow you to batch change the relevant settings between the most common suggested settings for different usecases.
Just “General use” and “Privacy” profiles would go a long way.
What would it take for a fork of Firefox to become the main branch one must wonder? I know I switched to LibreWolf and IronFox when this all started, not FireFox. Now I’m hearing WaterFox works on the platforms I use (is it as good?)
Neither of these projects are doing core feature development on the browser engine though, as far as I can tell. I guess what it would take is a heap of cash for them to really compete.
I see LadyBird and the grumbles about their sponsors, but at least they are really doing work from the core rather than modding.

One of the biggest and most underrated things you can do now to prepare for a job search os have your current coworkers and managers endorse the skills you listed above on your LinkeIn profile. This is powerful both because it validates your resume (for real people and AI reviewing it), and gives recruiters a way to find you. With your skill set you should have plenty of people coming to you asking if you are interested in work without even pursuing applications yourself.
What kind of CAD software are you proficient with? What type of designs have you mostly focused on?

Australia is leading the way, multiple EU nations have stated interest/intent: https://www.newsbytesapp.com/news/science/these-nations-might-ban-social-media-for-teenagers/story

not today Swiper, not today

You are vastly underestimating the youths current addiction to social media. Take it away and you will see some rapid pursuit of novelty.

Eh, recent studies show some implicit bias in some of the best Chinese models, mostly when it comes to software dev stuff so less relevant here. Not the hugest deal for this kind of projected either way, but it would be good to know if they are using those vs say Llama, or yes just building a front end fine tune for a closed model.

In my dumb naive optimistic brain bridges are the perfect kind of software to be automatically developed, revised, tested, and updated by AI agents.
Two sets of rules with written documentation (API), translate request from one to the other, validate message sent and message received, if not revise and test again.
Realistically, I know this would likely hit a brick wall quickly, but it sure seems like if AI driven software development is getting actually practical this type of thing should be on the easier end of the spectrum of possibilities.

I notice it doesnt say what model Socialism AI is built on top of, I’m guessing one of the Chinese models fine tuned?

You can run it yourself on a closed network if you’re worried about telemetry, that’s part of the point.

is this with or without the prompt including politically sensitive topics?

Check out Apertus , the Swiss are showing how it should be done. 100% open: architecture, training data, weights, recipes, and final models all publicly available and licenses Apache 2.0. https://ethz.ch/en/news-and-events/eth-news/news/2025/09/press-release-apertus-a-fully-open-transparent-multilingual-language-model.html

Prohibition leads to the propagation of means of evasion. By attempting to ban teenagers from popular means of communications they will incentivize mass adoption of “illicit means” of communications, and create another generation both familiar and comfortable with “illegal online activity” like the Napster generation. Just like Napster, this will also accidentally push youth into online platforms and channels where they are more likely to encounter content not suitable for minors and malware.
The only “truly effective” form that this type of internet control can take is requiring a digital ID verification to establish a connection to the network at the ISP, and that is a nightmare setup we should be prepared to fight tooth and nail.
The question is why is this the case? The simple answer is p2p solutions struggle with asynchronous communications due to variable uptime of consumer devices. That said, that can be overcome by various means.
Establishing a user base for any communications platform is a challenge, largely adoption is driven by user experience and project narrative. There is no reason a p2p project couldn’t meet these criteria, they have before many times for file-sharing.
In fact, I think a self-hosted cloud storage solution with a communications platform built on it could be a great way to get a network of this type established. I know various file-sharing platforms like Soulseek have had these features, but I wonder if you slapped a WhatsApp clone UI onto it and push it as “own and share your files securely, no one you don’t specifically share the file with ever holds the files” if that wouldn’t pick up some steam.
