“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary, [culture, way of life, and identity] depends on him not understanding it.”
I really like the scenes where they just drop all the subtlety and violently assault the suspect, even in an interrogation room.
That and the tough talk referencing the Patriot Act. “You’re a terrorist, you don’t have rights! You’re not getting a lawyer, you’re getting a C-130 to Gitmo!”
In both cases you’re supposed to cheer it on, seemingly.
Russia is fighting on the side of climate change, not against it. Their entire economy is based on petrol and raw material exports. Hell, they might actually come out ahead if some of their territory turns temperate in a warming climate, while it wreaks havoc on their enemies. Muh warm water ports.
I think it should be legal to deport people like Yogthos who immigrate into the West but are obviously on some sort of foreign intelligence payroll to run low-grade propaganda online. They are basically spies. They should be thrilled to go back to China and Russia anyway.
Hot take: WWII rifles aren’t inherently priceless historic artifacts and I don’t really care that much when they’re “bubba’d.”
They made millions upon millions of Garands, Enfield’s, Mosins, etc. The amount of war materiel in general produced was astronomical. If we treated every weapon, truck, tank, shell, ship, and piece of shrapnel as priceless, we wouldn’t have known what to do with it all. It’d be like a hoarding mentality on a societal scale.
So yeah, people cut down old war rifles into hunting rifles. Repurposed surplus trucks where they could. Scrapped countless more where they couldn’t. People moved on.
FYI the Sage chassis pictured is completely reversible and does not require altering the base rifle.
A little surprised to see thermal optics on a suicide drone, I guess it’s the cheapo digital kind like you can buy on Amazon and plug into your iPhone. The good stuff is quite expensive, several times the cost of the drone and payload.
Might have hidden successfully if the drone didn’t have them…and if he went prone in the grass instead of freezing in the middle of a dirt road.
This is the key point. Any dip in the market will be speculated upon by institutional money, driving supply down and prices up.
I’ve thought the housing market was going to collapse “soon” for almost a decade.
But cars are certainly on the path. Along with many facets of our modern comfortable lives.
Even the most ambitious climate agreements are mere consolation prizes. The only way to reverse course is global eco-fascism, for the sole reason that you cannot entice enough people to sacrifice for the public good to matter, you have to force them at the end of a gun.
Desuburbanization - forcing people out of their 4000sqft SFHs and into 700sqft urban apartment units like a bizarro Pol Pot. Seizing personal vehicles and letting them rot on the side of the road or in the desert. And yes, using military force to seize cruise liners and sink them to the bottom, and more broadly to shut down harmful industry.
None of that will ever happen though, because in our society violence serves capitalism, it will never seek to destroy it. So you are correct, everyone here should be on the Collapse communities rather then here.
Just about every facet of their Soviet military inheritance has been seriously diminished or depleted at this point, with the exception of their nuclear warheads. I can’t see them ever recovering from this war.
Why can these companies never see the forest for the trees and realize that they could probably make more money in the long run by switching production to fulfill “green” demands than trying to ratfuck the laws into keeping their legacy harmful products solvent?
The regimes they simp for/are employed by have historically been pretty vicious to LGBT, so no real surprise.
The 80s isn’t too bad a vintage - the M1 and M1A1 Abrams are from around then.
They’re fielding really old shit like T-62s and T-55s though.
Gotta wonder how bad the situation is with desertion and how well locked-down they have their penal soldier pipeline. I’d be wanting to kill whoever I had to with whatever I could get my hands on to escape, but that’s easy to say with nothing at stake and I’m sure at least a handful have tried.
Shield its population from foreign influence
Yeah, they would know the damage that could cause wouldn’t they?
Hopefully not chemical weapons. I know Russia has used CS gas on the battlefield and legally that is “chemical warfare” but let’s not pretend that’s on the same level as fucking Sarin.
Dude randomly ends the article with antivax tripe, saying that vaccinating children is essentially murdering them.
Evangelism is essentially a doomsday cult, they want to accelerate the End Times so Jesus will come back and bring the faithful to the Kingdom of Heaven while the sinners get left behind to burn.
It’s almost like promising people an afterlife is supposed to make them not care about the awful state of their earthly lives (that those in charge inflict upon them).
I have no real experience on the subject, but if I had to guess, volunteers would fly into Poland and travel by land into Ukraine.
You should really get some advice from people who have done it though. Even if it’s not strictly speaking illegal, flying internationally with a bunch of military gear in your luggage and saying you’re off to fight in a war is probably not appreciated by the customs officers of any country you would travel through.
You should have a clear idea of who to report to before you even start packing. You will almost certainly get shunted into a “foreign legion” if you don’t speak a lick of Ukrainian.
Also, consider your choice carefully. Pro-Ukraine social media likes to put their victories and Russian embarrassments front and center. But this isn’t some low intensity police action, this war is chewing lots of people up and there’s little bias as to who. Basically every volunteer I’ve heard stories from says they’ve had buddies get maimed or killed, if they haven’t gotten maimed or killed themselves.
There’s embassy listings for multiple countries in Central/South America in that link.
This is kind of the long and short of it. “Preparing for climate change” is doomsday prepping. There is no place you can move to and expect to never face struggle, if only because you will have to contend with refugees and a breakdown of critical supply chains, in particular food and clean water. “Land that is not underwater, on fire, or an unlivable desert” will be a prized commodity and you will be contested for it if you happen to be living on it.
