He has switched to Linux Mint instead
Have you tried different version of proton, proton GE or even wine?
I have only had good luck with using wine with the ea app on my desktop PC.

Yes, you install it on the desktop with protonup
You will want to “hold” the package in apt. That’s what I do.

Are your games installed on an NTFS formatted drive? Steam on Linux generally doesn’t play nice with NTFS.

Just had to make sure that steam was launched on the PC first and it worked just fine. Transferred The Division 2 very fast.
