That there is no perfect defense. There is no protection. Being alive means being exposed; it’s the nature of life to be hazardous—it’s the stuff of living.
My weather app/widget already does those recommendations.
I am pretty sure this was true even before the transformer model was invented.
Looks like the bugs used by Fire Ant were patched in late 2023.
If you’re running system with critical unlatched bugs, you shouldn’t be surprised when you get attacked.
Not that great?
The ones listed on our local second hand platform have no 3D capabilities (beyond monitor output), Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge CPUs that are slowly entering the “not good enough for even basic tasks” zone and miniscule SSDs (120 GB) by modern standards.
They are cheaper of course, but these two options don’t seem comparable.
Prices and capabilities have been increasing. The benefit having specifically the Raspberry Pi in a laptop (versus another ARM solution) is the massive ecosystem around the Raspberry Pi.
I am with you on this, I too want to minimize usage/spend on both American and Chinese products/services.
But for personally, custom ROMs have too many drawbacks for use as a daily driver.
There is also less need for custom ROMs. One of the first custom ROMs that I used was for Galaxy Note 3. Following their disasterous Android 5.0 update, I decided to try out LineageOS.
It was like night and day. It was much more responsive and UI/UX was cleaner while offering more customisation.
These days smartphone devices (even cheaper ones) remain very performant even 3-4 years after release (battery notwithstanding) and most OEM have long support periods.
That’s fine by me, can’t really I care much for either Android or OneUI updates these days. They are mature platforms for a product that’s been around for ~25 years.
Regular security updates is a much bigger deal.
I see no posts when following the link in Voyager.
An actually useful feature in a new Android release!
Don’t think this an OS issue per se. Both timed and sunset/sunrise work great on OneUI and Nova Launcher.
24GB? My grandma’s desktop is still on 6 GB RAM (she only uses the browser and media player).
I would recommend the following commercial games with fair monetizaion (B2P, DLC only)
Project Highrise:

The Final Earth:

Both are well made tower builders in the vein of SimTower (they both have excellent PC versions as well).
Pretty nasty piece of malware, although it seems these days malware is at comparable level of sophistication.
The price is only worth it if you want a phone that stands out and is unique.
Otherwise it’s simply too expensive for what it is.
Smartphones are a mature market and outside of “status symbol” and brand considerations, it honestly makes no sense for the vast majority of people to spend more than USD $400 equivalent on a smartphone.
Even camera quality is increasingly becoming good enough on mid-range devices.
The Consentik plugin adds cookie consent banners to customer websites. However, the unsecured server was broadcasting real-time site analytics and private authentication tokens, including Shopify admin credentials and Facebook ad tokens, to anyone on the internet who knew where to look.
This is brutal.
Considering Google’s failure to support the tablet form factor on Android (many 1st party Google apps have much better versions for the iPad), I am skeptical this will lead to anything good.
With hardware you will always have higher per unit costs for more niche product lines due to weaker economies of scale.
It’s true for hardware products that are free (as in freedom) or apple products (e.g. Vision Pro).
Not much we can do about this, short of a revolution in 3D printing and distribution systems (you will never be able to 3D print all components; e.g. semiconductors).
Apologies in advance for being overly pedantic, but it’s Zen 2, not Ryzen 2. Ryzen is a generic brand, when Zen is the architecture family.
This is pretty cool, I would consider buying a pre-made kit for such a device, especially if the resolution was higher than 768.
Even more dependence on corrupt American oligarch gangs.
