  • People of Color Aren’t Invited

Many are of Asian descent—a reflection of the strong presence of Asian talent in global tech

This is something I really have an issue with: they’re trying to paint it as a race thing when it’s a wealth/class thing.

They’re trying to frame it like they hate anyone non-White while I’m willing to bet good money they have nobody, White or otherwise, from places like the Deep South/other poorer places in the US, and it’s just that Latin & Black people are more likely to come from less privileged backgrounds for historical reasons than White/Asian people.

That’s not to say that racism doesn’t exist, it’s just to say that it’s definitely not the biggest factor here. Don’t buy into corporations trying to divide the working class by race, when it’s so obviously a class struggle.

It is a different definition, but it’s the same unit… it’s also more like saying “that ball of yarn is 10 metres” - the ball itself isn’t 10 metres long in any dimension, but the meaning is clear given the context, as it would if you said “it’s 0.05 metres”. By having two meanings distinguishable by context, it seems like two definitions to me.

  • Human energy needs are incredibly variable so the estimates for normal consumption are wrong for most people, but when you get into essential systems (basically cardiovascular and nervous, not even including digestive or any muscle movement) you actually need even less - the average (by weight, height & age) man needs 1950kcal or so and the average woman (by height, weight & age) needs 1450kcal or so

When we replace AI with brains in jars I’m sure we can cut it down even more though

  • There’s “everything goes exactly as planned until one player derails the whole session unhindered by rolls or turns” rules-light and “let things flow more naturally and allow things outside the rules if everyone thinks they add to the story” rules-light though…

Personally I much prefer the presence of rules which can be followed if convenient or desired, or ignored if you’d rather, but it is also equally valid to want to do collaborative storytelling/investigation without being derailed by bad rolls, I just know that dealing with setbacks and things not going to plan (which is different to things not succeeding in a pre-planned manner, but again equally valid, along with everything going well if you’d rather) is probably my favourite part

I work 9 hours a day, but cycle a pedal bike in at relatively high speed while stopping at all the lights. That comes to about 30 minutes (25 moving) of 170+bpm exercise each way, so 50 minutes per day. Even after showering, that’s comparable timewise to how long it’d take on public transport (20 mins walk & 20 on trains, so not much longer outside either), and you remove the need to pay for a gym subscription (as long as you’re ok being built like a t-rex).

Even if you don’t have showers in the workplace, you can go easy on the way in and hard on the way back for a still significant effect.
