If I try to log into https://lemmy.ml/c/todayilearned with @ancientweasel@social.fossware.space it doesn’t work.
If I search for !todayilearned@lemmy.ml from social.fossware.space it doesn’t show up.
If I browse to lemmy.ml from federated instances on this lemmy there is no federated login that transits to a session on lemmy.ml .
What and I missing? What is a feasible way to have a useful user experience? It seams like this stuff is less than half baked. Please assist.
You need to put the URL of the community you want to access into the search bar of the instance you are logged into right now. If you’re on a Lemmy instance, the search bar should be on the drop-down menu on the upper right of your screen. If you’re on kbin, I don’t know where the search bar is, but hopefully not too hard to find.
Then, the community you’re looking for should come up as a link through your own instance, and when you click through, you will be able to subscribe using your existing account, and interact with posts as if they are on your local instance.
In my experience, whether you can search for the community by the name starting with ! depends on whether someone on your instance is already subscribed, so if you put in a search term and nothing comes up, try the full URL instead.
Trying to log into lemmy.ml with fossware.space credentials is like trying to log into Google with AOL credentials.
Use https://social.fossware.space/c/todayIlearned@lemmy.ml
You use links on your server to pull the data from the other servers
Yep it works. How come this never came up in my hours for searching around?
If we want the fediverse to be a thing we need it to be accessible. I have a Masters Degree in Information Technology and I couldn’t help myself to do simple things.
