Most communities I want to join show Pending after I click on the subscribe button.

24 hours later they are all still pending. What am I doing wrong? What is pending? Is this a bug?

My feed is garbage right now because its all memes and local sports teams which I do not care about at all.

I try to join something I do care about like Linux and it says pending. I have to logout to see interesting content but them I cant participate.

Is this the expected Lemmy experience?

Lemmy.world was on version 0.17 yesterday.

Today, Lemmy.world finally upgraded to 0.18.1-RC4 (a test version), that should fix this issue. Try unsubscribing and resubscribing. Everything is working today for me at least (well… aside from the new bugs in 0.18.1 lol).

After the upgrade I went through the list of communities I’ve subscribed to, and did the unsub/resub dance for all that were pending (some for over a week). Some worked almost instantly, some worked within a few hours, and some are still pending even though i did this over 12 hours ago.

The category a community falls in seems to be related to its home instance, so there’s probably some delay in the communication with certain instances. Four out of the five that are still pending for me are lemmy.ml communities, for example.

In the mean time, posts from “pending” communities have been showing up in my “subscribed” feed though, so 🤷‍♂️️.
