8 months ago, this guy made an amazing cyberdeck and posted a 47-minute video explaining how he built it. And the comments were flooded with “that’s not a real cyberdeck!” So he made this video to address the trolls.
I really love how building cyberdecks has become more popular in the last few years. Everytime I see a build though it never seems to be quite as good as a small laptop. I know “real” decks have neural interfaces and other scifi tech in them but I feel like cyberdeck builders could add things like SDR or mesh networking to give it a functional reason to exist.
Still a fun idea though.
Anyone else think gatekeeping the cyberpunk terminology is as hopeless as it is pointless?

Especially if you can manage to run modern Linux on it.
But you don’t understand, if someone else uses terminology specific to MY favorite cyberpunk story incorrectly according to my interpretation of it, it RUINS EVERYTHING! I HAVE to tell them they’re wrong, or they’ll just CONTINUE BEING HAPPY/CONTENT ABOUT THINGS!
We can at least push toward “high tech low life” instead of generic rainy neon. Less Hong Kong, more Kowloon.
Page 132 of the Cyberpunk 2020 rulebook. They are just laptops in real life because you dont have an interface jack and the Net doesnt actually have Ihara-Grubb Algorithms to make it 3D.
