Or a really big star ship?
Like one with REALLY nice facilities and services, maybe not a full blown holo-deck cuz that’d sorta defeat the purpose of a hypothetical. Like it could even have some domed gardens and stuff but nothing quite big enough to fully trick you into thinking you were on a planet surface.
IDK if I could, I like the outdoors, but it would also basically be like living in the most walkable city ever.
No, I am claustrophobic and also my mental health deteriorates severely when I can’t get out in nature.
That is literally my ultimate fantasy. My dreams end out having lore and my really really good ones involve me and a whole bunch of really excited people being among the first to go to a liveable and well tested space colony. My profile pic is no coincidence but I had these dreams before I watched gundam. I love sci fi and space is the place. I would be siked. I would wanna get a job working on the station. That sounds amazing.
When I was a kid, I thought living in an arcology or on a space station like DS9 would be good for my agoraphobia. More recently (thanks to therapy) I’ve realized that I’m not actually afraid of being outside, I’m afraid of being perceived by other people. Inside is still bad if people can see through my windows, but outside is really good if I’m like 50 km away from the nearest human other than my wife.
I want to live in an arcology, though I wouldn’t be surprised if the underlying desires causing that could also be fulfilled by a walkable city with decent public transportation. I hate car hell.
where do i sign up
Star Fleet I guess
I prefer living in places without the threat of being sucked into hard vacuum
Your soul is weighed down by earth’s gravity
Oh no, I didn’t make a deal with the Scarab King to let something as simple as gravity weigh down my soul

Well that could still happen here if a meteorite gets too close.
Yeah, but I also don’t have to worry about space banditos
Are they any worse than Earth banditos?
Pictured: Space Bandito

Okay, dont even joke about Ridley. We’d be so fucked if he came here.

okay, sure lets all pretend like we havent been sucked by a hard vacuum before i didnt realize we were pretending on this website hex bear dot com
Sign me up to live on a Culture ship and take drugs with weird hyper sentient AIs.
Honestly the Culture sometimes sounds so Utopian I think for me it’d be a dystopia. Like, I have too many options, what’s my purpose???
I think I’d prefer Star Trek cuz yeah it’s basically post scarcity but seems like humans have more stuff to do.
I know exactly what I’d do under the Culture: Work as a SC agent that secretly subverts primitive capitalist regimes all over the galaxy, that’s something I could give my whole being to and never tire of it
Can’t really do that under Starfleet
Section 31?
for sufficiently advanced definitions of super and fancy yeah of course
Do you think you could be happy […]
Probably not

But I do like the idea of living in a giant man-made structure and have always enjoyed being on ferries and things like that. As you said, at a large enough scale it might as well just be a city you can’t leave and I’ve always been fine just going to places I can walk to
what kinda ping we talking?
Ping?
Pong
network latency
Oh, duh
Well if we’re building fucking space stations I guess pretty good.
There is literally nothing I want more than FALGSC
Depends, are there other people on there? Like, if it’s basically a city, just in space, I wouldn’t mind. I would worry about my mental health and my general well-being if it was just a handful to a dozen people. Plus, I wanna be able to date and live a little. You can’t really do that with a super low population unless you’re very lucky.
Now, if the answer is that it has a real population pool, plus visitors and people coming and going, Id say I would be open to giving it a try for sure
Nah we’re talking a big station with at least a small city’s worth of people living on it.
I think I could do it. The tricky part is, could I receive visitors? How comfortable is living there? Do I need to work? Is it heavy labor? An office job? Etc.
If it’s really high-level science fiction, there must be some benefits as well, like tasty food? Maybe aliens and robot friendos?
EDIT: Sorry im just curious what you imagined when thinking about this scenario.
All good questions but I’m not sure.
I guess you can have a robot friend.
OK. gun to my head I say - YES.
I mean leaving my friends and family behind and having to communicate by mail/ recorded video because relativity would kinda suck
Didn’t say they can’t come with you.
Sure, but Idk if they would.
What’s the catch?
It’s a studio apartment in Brown Sector on Babylon 5.
You have to clean out the holodeck cum filters sometimes
What’s the catch?
Sometimes gamer aliens will kidnap you into a pocket dimension board game where you have to play hopscotch with an alien girl.
Well it does seem like a great way for intercultural exchange
We talking like an O’Neill cylinder or what?
Eh, not really, that’s such a big station you might as well be living on a planet.
I’m thinking more something like DS9, where there’s some open space and even greenery but you know you’re in a confined space.
Do we get the newest Pleasure Goddess of Rixx releases?
This assumes that the sacred chalice of rixx gets passed doen to diana, although she was the goddess of empathy on the show
That assumes the PGoR holoprograms were faithful adaptions of Rixxian theology and weren’t software taking liberties with the source material to appeal to potential buyers
And a good day to youse
The ‘im six beers deep and not getting this was’ meant to be timestamped. My bad, but that was the case for me

Oh totally
So you’re saying some kind of orbital space cruise ship lol
I think about this sometimes. It would be interesting, but also scary.
