Provisions against pulling any Ireland-Luxembourg-Malta shit should be mandatory, though.
I hope they vote for this, continued discussions will hopefully turn into something good.

Imagine that, an EU referendum that isn’t going to be taken as an eternal, binding mandate to be obeyed at all costs by multiple parties. Happy for you, Iceland.
Don’t you have to be in Europe to join the EU? How is Iceland eligible? Is Canada eligible? We have a land border with (the kingdom of) Denmark.
Iceland is part of Europe though, culturally, geographically, geologically (though geologically it’s part of both Europe and North America) and geopolitically.
And technically I believe nowhere is it stipulated that the EU must be on the European continent. Turkey would have had most of their territory outside the EU
Armenia and Georgia are both also potential candidates, and both are in Asia Minor.
Canada could pose other problems in that standards there are historically aligned with the US and Mexico rather than European neighbours (110V electricity and North American TV standards are two examples, though by then broadcast TV may be an anachronism).
They have tons of laws in common with the US, trade deals, railways that cross all over the place… Cutting canada from the US would be a nightmare
