Asian and Muslim communities have been told to wash their rice and feet less in a water-saving push. “Ofwat”, the water industry regulator, has been criticised for funding “bizarre” guidance targeting ethnic minority households.
It used £270,000 of billpayers’ money for a research initiative that used a celebrity chef to teach Southeast Asians how to cook and wash rice with less water. Muslims were also encouraged to use only a litre of water when performing ritual ablutions known as “wudu” before prayer.
The water industry has come under increased scrutiny following the long, dry summer which has left much of the country under hosepipe bans, sparking concerns customers could be penalised with higher bills under schemes to limit water use and fund improvements to the network.
Andy Burnham was reported to be preparing an intervention this week after The Telegraph revealed that Ofwat, the regulator, planned to allow firms to build “surge pricing” into bills from April during periods of water scarcity.
Pretty fucking laughable considering something like a quarter of all drinking water in the uk is lost to leaking infrastructure
Brits confirmed filthy as, the devil hides between their toes
This is so insane. May as well tell people to shower less. The water companies only care about AI data centers.
I’m sure the data centers actually responsible for water shortages got no insulting pamphlets.
Don’t tell white people to water their grass less though 😏
God damn do I hate lawns. Most places around here with a “yard” have grass, but there are a few islands of sanity where there is no grass only native flora. I get it that a well manicured lawn does something satisfying to the brain of a lot of people, even myself when I was forced to mow, but seeing these native flora displays has a satisfying air of controlled chaos bringing, myself at least, a sense of calm. They can also thrive on what the environment drops on them, or doesn’t. Even in our water rich environment it was always such a waste
I planted clover and wild flowers, it’s so beautiful compared to plain grass
The targeting of minority communities here does seem pretty sus, but the hosepipe bans mentioned are literally the government telling people not to water their lawns.
They are being inclusive because the “white lawns” as you are referring to them were some of the earliest water use bans. Now they are telling specific communities to use less water doing things those communities normally see as common-place.
I ain’t listening to that. Using more water when cooking rice is shown to help leach out poisonous contaminants.
How about you ban datacentres, golf courses, and vanity lawns instead of advising me to eat more poison. Or fixing water infrastructure so we’re not leaking 3bn litres of water a day? Or implementing a grey water standard, which can cut household water usage by a minimum 20%? Of course, over half of all water is used in agriculture, maybe we could finally look at implementing efficient farming practices? Maybe we could reforest areas to prevent water loss and keep people cool, thus both increasing supply and reducing demand?
Nah, just eat poison and don’t wash.

Lol, how much rice do they think Asian people are cooking? It only takes like a liter of water or so to wash enough rice to feed a family for the day. If we are getting petty about it, how about skipping your 9th cup of tea for the day?
Do these people not employ a single brown person in their pr department?
Well we all know Mao ate 500 billion grains of rice in the Great Beet Forthward. Which means Chinese people will need 500 billion liters of water each day for their rice cooking, in addition to the 700 trillion gallons used to boil their beets.
True… People think the CCP built the three gorges dam to power their industrial revolution. In reality it was just so the chairman could have enough water for his lunch.
Andy, go fuck yourself, you prick
Classic europeans LMAO
Wash your feet less. Britain wants to see them dogs absolutely crusty
We should have nipped the neofascist environmentalists and wuwu shit when we had the chance.
