Europe + north America is about 8% of the world population, so that number doesn’t help to narrow it down at all.

What I know is that from most “poor” country’s perspective it’s the whole population of the northern countries that are at fault (+ some other), and I’m not sure they are wrong.

Large Western corporations lobbying to force everyone to keep using coal instead of cleaner alternatives and even shutting down things like nuclear in Germany isn’t helping.

It’s the obvious capitalist for-profit motives which are frequently even contradictory to the well-being of local populations in terms of air pollution, datacenters etc that are responsible for a very large part of the problem.

Well, those corporation did not create the problem alone, but their lobbying over corrupt or weak politicians in the last 40years certainly is the reason we are still in that mess, along with their ability to buy medias.

But well, they are not going to solve anything by themselves are they? So what do we do? Live our life as right wing oppressors of the third world while mumbling about capitalism on the internet?

I’m a bit old to still wait for a revolution. I still hope for one, kind of, but I’m afraid the far right would use it to take over. I would participate though.

The only other way out I can think of is to change our habits, and slowly show other people that life is good this way, because it is.

Honestly the changes in the good direction over the past 30 years are impressive, even though they are slow.

On the other hand, Trump is so dumb that he might solve part of the problem by mistake.

Exactly. As much as I am aware that Bezos is probably polluting more in an hour than I do in a year, this kind of phrasing shifts the blame to the wealthier and most of the western world changes nothing to their habits while saying “it’s the billionaires fault”. The fact that people don’t try to cut their own emmissions/waste is directly contributing to that of the wealthiest. People don’t want to see themselves as part of the problem.

You’re right, for some reasons we see it as “the 10% per country”. If you’re from north America or Europe you will very probably end up in the world’s 10% at one point in your life.

The fucked up part is that you can be in the 10%, be a part of the problem, and still have a shitty life, because the system is that fucked up.
