Was not expecting a take like this to be so well received in such a space.
CW:
they’re reading theory
now just a little more - read “the Highest Stage of Capitalism”.
and fwiw, this is why I like State and Rev as a reading rec for libs - it reads like a twitter rant but coherent.
“Nowhere near a tankie!”
Viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiibes
Someone was literally doing the “Every revolution is good until it has to govern” bit, but unironically.
“Of COURSE I’m a communist—I’m as far left as they come! That’s why we need to vote for Biden, reach out to Nazis, and lick the boots of the police and military! Anyone who questions me is either Russian or insane!”
reach out to Nazis
TBF, Vaushites really don’t pull that shit anymore, in fact most Libs don’t either. The rise of Trump and QAnon has displeased any delusions of a “moderate right”. Nowadays Libs openly fantasize about carpet bombing the mid-West to kill all the Trump voters. It’s funny to see Libs go
but in the name of normie Liberalism.
Have you heard about the Nazis in Ukraine? Libs also still constantly talk about the far-right versus the regular wholesome right and Trump voters versus regular wholesome Republicans. Mentally liberals still believe that we’re in the year 2015.
The Nazis in Ukraine are far away and useful to US hegemony. I haven’t heard many Libs say they’re good, just downplaying their significance.
The Nazis at home they’re more worried about. Also I haven’t heard shit about “moderate republicans” in almost a whole year.
Google trends shows that the term “moderate republicans” has had more or less the same level of interest since 2004:

And if liberals were actually interested in stopping Nazism, they would stop the capitalism that creates it.
I don’t think that necessarily indicates Libs still believe it as strongly as they do. This is anecdotal, but Libs do seem genuinely unnerved by Trump and a lot have totally given up on any hope of redeeming the GOP after him.
And yes Libs don’t actually oppose fascism, but I do think they are off put by Trumps vulgar, boorish brand of fascism enough to at least put up a performative opposition to it.
When I see evidence for this rather than just vibes, I’ll believe. Given the choice between communism and fascism, liberals usually choose fascism.
Yes I know, I don’t think we really disagree on much so idk why there’s the hostility.
And yeah it’s vibes but the nature of this question means it’d be pretty difficult to do a quantitive study on it, we mostly just gave vibes to go off here. If you lurk the more lib brained corners of Reddit and Twitter there’s been a noticeable drop off of people advocating “working with republicans”. Sure these are online Libs, they don’t represent the leadership of the DNC or even you’re normie suburban mom lib, but they are the ideological base of the party.
Remember those people uniromically think that Lenin would have told the Bolsheviks to vote for Biden, so…
