It has been nearly six weeks since McConnell cast a vote in the Senate, just days before he was rushed to the hospital on June 14 by emergency responders.
The Daily Beast made multiple requests for information with the offices of all seven other members of the Kentucky delegation about whether the members of Congress had been in contact with McConnell or even bothered to reach out to the former Senate Majority Leader. Our questions were largely met with silence.
Only Rep. Andy Barr’s office responded and simply pointed to the congressman and GOP Senate nominee’s comments in Lexington one month ago, where he told reporters after an event in Lexington that he had exchanged text messages with McConnell. That was on June 21.
The offices of Paul along with Reps. James Comer, Brett Guthrie, Morgan McGarvey, Thomas Massie and Hal Rogers did not say whether they’d been in contact with the senator or his staff.
Beshear’s office confirmed with the Daily Beast on Tuesday that the governor has still not received “any communication whatsoever” from McConnell.

Yep. Just go ahead and call the special election.
If the Republicans want to stop that, they’ll have to sue to stop it, and that lawsuit will have to provide proof of life in order to go anywhere. If they can’t provide proof of life (for obvious reasons), then their lawsuit will go nowhere and the election will proceed. (And, of course, if they can, then the judge would halt the election.)
Republicans would’ve have called a special election the moment a democrat senator got the sniffles, yet here we are
McConnell would have skipped right ahead to appointing whoever the fuck was the most evil and compliant.

Depending upon how we want to define “alive” they very well could provide that proof of life, and then the Republicans would just call the Democrats stupid/evil/whatever

I’ve heard Beshear isn’t pushing harder because McConnell not being present is better than a special election that puts a new actively voting Republican in office. I can see the logic.
But then, if we were ever going to flip that seat, now it’s the time. So I do wish he just called the special election and let McConnell’s ghost hold a press conference to reassure everyone he is only mostly dead.
Kentucky is not likely to flip that seat unless Beshear himself runs for it or his dad comes out of retirement.
