While he was my introduction to the leftist political space, I never understood why he was so intellectually lazy. I’ve never seen him actually research something, learn something and so on. He just now looks like an entertainer, or a cheerleader instead of someone actually willing to engage in good faith convos.
Yeah that’s why I stopped watching years ago. So many shitty takes and weird misogyny that I found out about later. But what initially started pissing me off is how often he’d refuse to back down and refuse to learn anything. Similar problem I have with hasan even tho I think he’s better about it.

I was a fan turned hater and he had been accused of being a pedo himself for years (I think I watched him between 2022-24 and it might have been a thing when I started. Yes I am ashamed of it). While I didn’t see any conclusive evidence myself, at this point I believe it’s valid to be deeply suspicious of the guy (also there was sexual harassment stuff that was actually confirmed by him to have happened) and I find it deeply disappointing that he remains as the 2nd biggest YouTube “leftist”
Is he still the 2nd biggest? At this point, I’m convinced that no respectable leftist can get attention on corpo platforms by design. Being angry and toxic is the only way they can succeed in the algorithm, so even well intentioned creators get warped into worse versions of themselves. Debatelords like Vaush and Destiny succeeded because they’re insufferable assholes at their core, so rolling around in the muck was where they were most at home.
Twitch is full of such morons always wanting to make the snarkiest comment and be noticed by the dumb ass host, so one person thinks of something then everyone spams it like they are some comic genius. There’s also no shortage of pedos on Twitch, so get off your high horse, pedobeard

The segment goes on a bit longer. He doesn’t make a point against e2ee (he’s very anti-surveillance in general) and I think pedo is just a general insult in this case. He thinks it’s irrelevant do-gooder shit. Which tracks for someone who measures relevance largely via his Twitter feed.
To be fair, there’s a group of very shady instances out there, but on the other hand, those are all defederated as soon as they pop up. As it is with so many things, it’s nuanced - being free to do what you want also means that there will be people abusing that freedom, but it’s still better than being policed by people whose only incentive is money and power.
I haven’t seen any of Vaush’s content before. I now know that he is as closed-minded as the average right winger. I won’t watch Vaush in the future too.

Because there is a good chance he is. He was a rising star on the left until a bunch of stuff came to light, and his momentum was halted for a while. I don’t remember the details, but it was enough for allies to walk away and him to step back from being as bold online.
He had a similar vibe and community to Destiny, only a left libertarian instead of a liberal. I would see him recommended and mentioned in the spaces I used to be in, but I never had any interest in his content. His vibe was so insufferable that he kept me from identifying as libertarian back when I was still uncomfortable with calling myself an anarchist.
Say you can’t process information without saying you can’t process information. Why would a ‘leftist’ read that and throw away an opportunity foe a decentralized network of communities not owned by the rich owning class?
