Surveillance creep is once again striking in the age verification debate. This is happening at the FCC this time.

they have been picking up the pace on this one lately haven’t they?

i wonder if they are afraid of something.

I sort of assumed they would wait for the age verification to be broadly rolled out, so it’s more of slippery slop and and not just a drop.

On the one hand this is an awful creep of capitalism into our privacy.

On the other when the revolution comes and we take these systems we’re going to make the Stasi look like a group of blindfolded hippies.

In my not so expert opinion, this shit be bad yo.

I do not want to have to ID myself online or ID my devices. Gonna have to switch to a bootloaded grapheneOS fair phone or chinese company for my next device if I want the same level of privacy as the “normie” phone setups from like 10 years ago.

Not sure how much better Chinese companies are. Everything owned by alibaba for the main land requires id verification now since a while ago. It seems to be common to make sure only main land users use it, Baidhu does it too. So I’m not sure if they’d bother with people outside of the mainland, but doesn’t really seem like a sure bet to me

On wechat you need someone from the mainland to be your guarantor if you want to make an account abroad.

To me the benefit is that Chinese tech corporations aren’t all tied to western intelligence by default, so it’s better for me since I don’t live in China, but some like Alibaba have already shown to be willing to play ball. And tiktok had already rolled over too before the US decided that’s not enough and that it needed to be US owned too.

yea that’s fair. I prefer chinese tech too i just wanted to mention that in case someone was going to spend money on it expecting to not be asked for id ever

What’s frustrating is that even normies get it, and don’t actually want this shit, but it’s just being shoved down our thoughts anyhow.
