I dont mind framework wanting to copy Apple or set it as some kind of goal, whatever. But do they have to ride their dick so hard and mention them everywhere in their video? It’s as if the marketing team wasn’t present when filming. “Say Macbook Pro more often than our product. That’ll make us not sound like a knockoff”.

You’re right, I should buy from Apple instead.

Patel hasn’t made any statements towards being a Nazi. Fuck Omarchy, and fuck him for supporting the development of it, but that itself doesn’t make him a Nazi. Framework still makes a damn good laptop, and it has forcefully pushed laptop development in a positive direction. Lenovo sort of did too with Thinkpads, but that’s the closest equivalent that comes to mind, and even that’s a stretch. So, unless there’s someone better out there, I’m still recommending Frameworks to people.

Interesting, but there’s no evidence they are nazi themselves, just that they intentionally disregard whether any of their partners are nazis, and only concern themselves with whether or not any partnership furthers their goal of promoting open source tech.

So their focus is just limited and immature.

They themselves can still do a lot of good, orgs don’t need to be perfect, but I too would expect them to remove support for extremist led project when made aware, as to ensure they weren’t inadvertently supporting extremist views and actions. But I also can’t see punishing them for being politically or socially stupid while otherwise being very tech savvy.

Like we’ve never met a socially awkward tech savvy person before?

The world is mostly a bunch of grey areas: at this point I disapprove of a couple of their actions, but I won’t boycott them outright for their error.

If they started flying nazi flags themselves, well, then, I suppose things would be a bit different.

The best way to get people to stop supporting Nazis is to stop supporting people who don’t condemn right wing behavior. You don’t wait until they start flying their flag. Once the flag starts flying it’s way too late for anything to change
