Is there any public service that isn’t under attack with the threat of privatization?

In short - no. There’s money to be made in privatization so it’s always on the menu unless we elect people ideologically opposed to it.

BTW you should see Dirty Business if you haven’t. It’s a really well made expose on the effects of Thatcher’s privatization programs on today’s Britain.

Thanks for the recommendation, it was eye-opening.

I watched the first episode last night. I knew it would be bad when they start with Thatcher fumbling words in a speech (the only kind of Thatcher speech, really), but it was heartbreaking. All the damages caused by that decision, public agencies that were supposed to protect the people acting like a lobby group for international banks. It was hard to hold in the tears during the town meeting, I was not expecting the real survivors at those scenes.

Canada post needs to modernize and face reality, not just continue for historical reasons.

It’s pretty ridiculous to have a guy in a truck drive around to each house to deliver junk flyers. The world has gone digital.

There is far more to mail delivery than junk mail. Yes a lot is digital, but the post still serves very real needs. And it is a service. Its not there to make money.

but the post still serves very real needs.

Name one that requires a guy to go house to house. I have not mailed a letter in 15 years, I get nothing but junk in my mailbox, placed right beside a trash can. Massive waste of money.
