to consider that starship troopers was literally a product of a fascist society and continues to be consumed by fascists in a fascist society. Stop coping. There is no subtext unless the audience decides there is. The bugs are “bad guys” and the cool “evil” space nazis are the “good guys” (us!) and there’s no Secret Third Factor That Makes This Good. Ask any guy heading off to die overseas right now if they like starship troopers. You won’t because you’re scared to admit that you just like how watching it makes you feel.
the subtext and humor are so weak that it just feels like straight up fascist propaganda and nothing at all like an ironic jab at said propaganda.
there i said it.
Nice work of art there. Too bad you failed to make it immediately understandable to fucking morons!

fascists would never enjoy comedic media poking fun at themselves, that’s only something every other ideological group does
sartre never wrote about this regarding anti-semites.
Ma’am you’ve been making a lot of bad posts lately

So you say. The rest of hexbear just posts their badposts wherever the fuck its outrageous. No revolutionary discipline at all.
Some of us just can’t help but badpost ok

Beanvolutionary disciblean
damn that sounds aerodynamic
Someone should make a movie where the fascists are gross slimy bugs, and they are going to war with humans on a distant planet. The bugs have a bullshit reason for going to war and everyone knows it. They just love destroying stuff and killing humans. You barely see the humans in this movie unless it’s a battle scene and you never see their faces close up, to prevent the audience from sympathising with them. Also the humans are brown and speak a made up language, and the bugs are a sickly pale pink and speak english
watch as the fascists watching the movie take the side of the bugs
Bugs are cool and don’t deserve to be associated with fascists
By Heinlein’s own admission the Arachnids in the novel were colony insects because they represented what the right hates the most, collective action
Sure, but I didn’t mean insects really (which are cool) as much as some kind of creeping globs
no i think they should make entertaining movies actually
I’m from Buenos Aires and I say “I DON’T CARE”
I’m from Beanos Aires and I say “Bean em all”
Are we really going to do this bit again?
I liked that bit
:(
but every movie made in the USA is what a movie made by a fascist society would look like
When that guy said the military made him the man he is today I really felt that.
same. i never served and it shows. dont let this happen to your sons.
Why is this in badposting?
cuz i dont want to have a serious conversation about starslop trippers.
What if it was starship strippers?
Veerhoven made that one too
Showgirls was underrated because Hollywood couldn’t stand having a mirror held up to show them the worst parts of themselves
strapship slappers
But have you considered…co-ed showers? Checkmate
I think people are seeing something in the movie That just isn’t there. I mean, Verhoeven literally said that the troops not assaulting each other in the co-ed showers was a sign that fascism had drained them of humanity & they were too obsessed with the state.
I’m gonna stick with Losurdo, etcetera’s historical view of fascism actually! Interesting concept though sir
good post
Be honest, the movie sucks because they dont have their super cool space drop pods or super suits.
The book sucks because it’s cool power armour and frequent lessons in reactionary civics make people think Heinlein was a pretty standard fascist chud and not an incest obsessed libertarian and closeted trans woman.
closeted trans woman.
we could have saved robert beanlein?
We could have made her so much worse babe
I Will Fear No Evil was not written by a cis man
Agreed. There’s stuff in time enough for love that is pretty trans when you get past the incest. Like cloning yourself but swapping the sex.
Yep, incest with hot trans redhead clones was a fairly major thing in that.
Also the whole character of Elizabeth “Libby” Long, canonically the smartest person in Heinlein’s Future History setting.
Oh yeah in number of the beast I forgot that
“there is no subtext unless the audience decides there is,” ok but the people you are addressing are members of the audience that have decided there’s subtext
am I tho?
As a correct opinion haver (mine), that movie hovers between disgusting and just bone-headed for me, which is fine and on point for fash movie. I didn’t think people legitimately enjoyed it until i met amerikkkans on the interwebs during iraq war
Which makes it a great art to watch one time, same as robocop, to understand what you are dealing with
