less of a rant
Why is it so hard for an app to not change fundamental UX every day. Genuinely this is a huge benefit to OSS because even “polished” proprietary software is doing this BS. Even having apps set to only update when I tell them aren’t safe because the publishers don’t need to update the whole app to change what swiping does on a video or how to change tabs.
I wonder which percentage of Hexbear users will click the first rant first, and which will click the second rant first. Presumably some might also click just one or the other, or neither. Maybe we should perform some sort of statistical analysis

Beautifully cursed response, you should have alternative edits to see which gets upbears faster
I clicked both before i began reading either
I wonder how many Hexbears read your comment first and then paused, paralyzed by choice they didn’t realise that they had before. It’s at least 1 (me).
I need an “autism mode” for applications that never changes anything.
Sounds like you got stung by A/B

I think the companies making the apps have an attitude towards UI/UX development that’s like retail with shelving. Even if sales are fine, retail stores will semi-regularly “shift up” the placement of merchandise. Typically not a huge shift, and it’s not universal (grocery stores tend not to do this so much), but there is a conventional wisdom that you gotta move things around now and then to keep things looking new, even if it’s the exact same merchandise.
So apps move shit around and mix up the UX to create the impression of a significant update/upgrade, even though it’s just rearranging the deck furniture.
I accidentally click the ppb and join lemmy link multiple times a day everyday.

I always hold the links to check where it leads because I don’t want to accidentally end up on X, youtube, facebook etc so this would never work on me but I still end up there often because I accidentally touch the screen on random places while it is loading on phone or because I find it so difficult to pay attention
