Russia could halt gas supplies to Europe right now amid a spike in energy prices triggered by the Iran crisis, President Vladimir Putin warned on Wednesday, linking the possible decision to the European Union wanting to ban purchases of Russian gas and liquefied natural gas.

LOL
“We’re going to ban Russian gas”
Russia: “If you ban Russian gas, we will turn off the tap!”
“…”
“Anyway…”
It’s a matter of timing; if the EU does it, it’ll be on a timeline with multiple phases and lots of exceptions. If Russia does it, it’ll be sudden and give the EU little time to figure out alternatives (and with the Epstein war, it’ll probably be very expensive for them).
It’s a lesson in not pushing important things off just because they’re annoying.
I want Russia to do it. Hopefully the EU will learn a lesson and try to be energy independent: nuclear, wind, solar, hydro.
Maybe it’s time to get off the methane. I thought Europe was already off it but there you go.
Mostly. Some countries built a bunch of storage so they could import LNG from Qatar. The grid is greening slowly and I suspect now we are coming out of winter gas demand will start to drop again.
