If Orban is reelected, the EU needs to take definitive action on Hungary and either punish its people for their choice or Hungary for no longer fulfilling the criteria of becoming an EU member

I mean it both is and isn’t. It does help small countries from being steamrolled by the bigger ones, so it was easier to get countries to join knowing that they would not be overruled by Germany, France and Britain. The assumption was that you would have rational actors in place that wanted to do good for their people. It’s been working well, mostly.

But also yeah, it’s frustrating to see one or two bad actors mess things up.

Individual countries can still act though, it just won’t be an EU coordinated thing.

      Edit: Damn autocorrect.

So, if a country in the EU is no longer adhering to the same mindset and practices, what is the solution? When they did , they joined the EU, but now? It seems to me that Hungary is just profiting off the rest, while actively sabotaging the whole construct.

Democracy I think. They’re having an election soon. Also put rules in place for all EU members on how to safeguard democracy, which has been happening for some time.

I still have hope for Hungary.

Just one nation can derail everything? How can that be? It’s so fucking easy to bribe just one!!! They need to fix that…

Until he gets elected again? Dude’s been sitting president for 16 years. I don’t expect that to change, even in the face of election loss and nation-wide protests. This is Putin country, he will make sure everything stays the same by any means possible. Look at Serbia. Same thing. They fought valiantly, and in the end nothing has really changed.

We have to accept that some countries in Europe and the EU are under the direct control of our main and biggest adversary. The US can be tangentially be counted to them as well.
