Hi everyone. I’m trying to compile a comprehensive list of fanfiction resources—sites, forums, tools, and communities—that exist beyond the two biggest archives (AO3 and FanFiction.net). I’ve got a starter list from my own browsing, but I know I’m missing a lot, and I’m particularly looking for sites that recommend new stories based on user feedback or taste. I’d love your input.
Here’s what I have so far:
General Forums/Archives:
- Questionable Questing, Sufficient Velocity, SpaceBattles (forums with heavy fic activity)
- Wattpad, Royal Road, ScribbleHub, Webnovel (often for original fic, but plenty of fanfic too)
Fandom-Specific/Specialty Hubs:
- Dark Lord Potter (primarily Harry Potter, especially darker takes, with other fandom sections)
- HPFanfiction Recommender
Tools, Databases, & Discovery:
- fichub.net (for downloading)
- ficdb.net (for tracking/discovery)
- Calibre + FanFicFare plugin
- Celestial Gambler
- Chaos Gacha by Bronz Deck
Communities (Reddit/Discord/Other):
- Subreddits: r/dark_fanfiction, r/NarutoFanfiction, r/WormFanfic (and many other fandom-specific ones).
- Discord servers (e.g., The Dark Wolf Shiro server, various fandom-specific servers). Examples: Gaming Omniverse, Celestial Emporium, Celestial Forge, Waifu Catalog
- Lemmy: I know of literature.cafe, but would love a fanfic-specific instance if it exists.
- NodeBB: Are there any NodeBB communities for fanfic or general literature?
Personal tracking lists:
What am I missing? I’m especially interested in:
- Sites or tools that recommend fanfics based on your feedback or ratings (like a “if you liked this, try this” engine).
- Sites, forums, or communities specifically for dark fics, or for progression/system/gamer/litrpg fics.
- Other hidden gem forums, niche archives for specific fandoms, or lesser-known tracking/discovery tools.
Thanks in advance for helping build this out. I think a lot of us would find a master list useful for exploring new corners of the fanfic world!
Fandom-Specific
- PokéCommunity – Pokémon, also focuses on other fanworks such as RPs, fanart and fangames; hosts one fanfic event annually.
- Thousand Roads – Pokémon, hosts events regularly.
Tools
Actually getting down to writing the fic is important as well! A couple pretty decent markdown-based editors: Ghostwriter, Tangent, Ferrite, Formiko (at Flathub), all of these FOSS where possible.
Write your fics, or any other kind of document, really, in a word processor without your content getting uploaded to a cloud or stolen by an AI: LibreOffice.
As for fanfic, the only lemmy community I know of besides the one in literature.cafe is lemmy.world/c/fanfiction , but no idea how active they are.
Fandom Specific: Mspfa for Homestuck fanfiction.
It’s often combined with File Garden for image hosting.
