Who is behind BuyfromEU?

Brandwise it is a complete mess.

They are everywhere but with a proliferation of names (e.g. BuyfromEU, BuyEuropean), websites, logos and instances on social (X, Bluesky, Reddit, Lemmy, digg).

There isn’t any single organization or person behind it, which is exactly why there isn’t any unified branding.

To begin with, the Reddit instance lists a website (with three names of individuals involved in its about us section) and an app, all with different logos. The mess goes on on the socials (X with handle @madeineuropeeu, Bluesky (two handles, two logos), Lemmy (three instances), europe.pub and digg. I cannot make heads or tails about them. BuyfromEU has got some media coverage, but where do I join them?

You join them in whatever shops you like to buy your European products. By giving them money and them giving you a European product.

Not sure what I’m supposed to get from that reaction. Was your original post supposed to be sarcastic and you weren’t actually looking for an answer to your question?

Rather than sarcastic, I feel confused. Is buyfromeu the same as goeuropean, go-european, madeineuropeeu? Where should I post? What is the difference between them? It seems like the EU itself (27 opinions, therefore 27 logos, websites, etc.)

It’s basically a movement with various different groups with similar goals, but no central organization. For example, there is the /r/buyfromEU subreddit, whose mod team has also created a Mastodon account, but who don’t run any of the Lemmy communities AFAIK. A couple of users from the subreddit created the GoEuropean app. Various users also created infographics, which get shared around between the platforms. Lemmy has 2 major communities, this one and !buyeuropean@feddit.uk. There’s some smaller offshoots from users who either didn’t like the instances these are hosted on or had some other issues with them I guess. It’s indeed all a bit fractured right now. As for where to post, pick any that’s active I guess. I’m subscribed to both this one and !buyeuropean@feddit.uk, but I slightly prefer the latter, because I think “Buy European” sounds better as a slogan and explicitely includes Non-EU countries like Switzerland and the UK, which I’m in favor of.

I mean as identity of course. Which of all these instances is brandfromEU (covered also in the media) and which is not?

None of them and all of them. It’s simply an idea in people’s heads. Many call the idea “buy from EU” but some people choose a different name for that idea in their head. There’s no “organization behind everything”. The answer you’re looking for simply doesn’t exist.

As for every idea, there’ll likely be people trying to use its power for personal gain. Don’t buy into any specific brand or some shit, just look at the products you buy and see if they’re European, that’s it.

Fun related fact: “Antifa” is also like that.
It’s not an organisation. If you’re against fascism, you’re part of Antifa.
That’s why declaring “Antifa” a terrorist organisation is so dangerous.
The only thing that makes you a “member” is your thoughts.
