One is for content and one is for posting pictures of your lunch.

There’s no “algorithm” on blog posts. You choose to subscribe to it or visit it regularly, if that’s what you want.

I liked having a blog, and no one paid attention to either of them

Blogs are journals. Social Media profiles are profiles.

So, some blogs are social media: Blogger, Blogspot, live journal are examples. The users of the site provide the content, have profiles and submissions, all that.

But some are not! Dev blogs for software projects and site update blogs are good examples of this. They may or may not have comments but it’s the proprietors of the websites providing the ordinary content.

Who provides the content, users or proprietors, is what makes it social media or not.

The average social media profile has just headlines and lead pictures, while a good blog also has articles

The snarky way to put it would be: more words, and the pretension of them meaning something profound.

I actually really appreciate people trying, though, and have learned some neat things from blog posts. I don’t really get the point of social media profiles by comparison.
