Mass protests were organized across Brazil on Sunday to reject a bill that seeks to reduce the sentences of people convicted of participating in the coup attempt on January 8, 2023, including far-right former president, Jair Bolsonaro, who has been sentenced to over two decades of imprisonment for his role against democracy. The right-wing controlled Congress, passed a bill last week that would allow convicted coup plotters to move to a less restrictive prison, for example, house arrest, and could reduce Bolsonaro’s sentence from 27 to six years.
