“cost of living” is a pretty fucked up idea when you stop and think about it.
I mean, even if you are not in a capitalist society and don’t have to pay to live, you would still have to work in order to have food. You wouldn’t buy your home but you would build it with your hands.
I get what you mean, abiut how modern life is expensive and borderline slavery in some countries in the world, but we always needed and probably always will need to work in order to survive. Hopefully less, but still some
One of many things I heard as a kid and went “wtf, no”
Same with a 40-hour, 40-year career. You mean I have to follow all these adult rules, go to school 6 hours a day all these years feeling like I’m in prison… To graduate to literal slavery or else… Prison? When does living actually come in?
5 year old me already wondered what the point was and knew I wanted off the ride. Not necessarily in a depressed way, but a way that said “this ain’t it, chief”.
7 year old me heard the plan for life, and immediately got depressed
42 year old me is depressed.
Early adolescence and the dot com bubble gave me the impression that the world used to suck, but now it would be sick. It got too sick, too nasty.
Very relatable
I get what is being implied, but has there been any time in human history where people didn’t have to “work” to survive? I mean even as Hunter gatherers, you’d die if you didn’t “work”.
I mentioned this in another thread, but I’d rather be struggling and free than struggling and oppressed.
