Bank of America is facing a proposed class and collective action lawsuit that accuses the company of failing to pay hundreds of hourly workers for time spent booting their computers, logging in, and launching required software before officially starting their shifts.
The complaint, filed by former employee Tava Martin, focuses on a routine familiar to many in the modern workplace: unlocking encrypted drives, signing in through multi-factor authentication, connecting to a VPN, and launching business-critical applications. According to the filing, these tasks could take up to 30 minutes each day and were required before employees could access the company’s timekeeping system to clock in.
reminder that wage theft far outpaces every other type of theft in this country
30 minutes for booting?! What the hell is going on with corpo software?
The software sucks but I bet half these workstations are some HP/Dell shitbox with a 4th gen i5 and 8GB of RAM, 5400rpm hard drives etc.
I hope they win, it’s total bullshit that you don’t get paid even though you are working. I used to work at a retail store where the only way to clock in was via the PoS (in both senses) computers, they were Windows Vista boxes still being used through at least 2017 and took 5-20 minutes to boot up.
Since switching to Linux I’m consistently delighted by boot times being so fast. Don’t even have time to go get a drink while it boots anymore lol
But banks can’t use Linux, it’s not “professional” enough
It’s not Linux, it’s having to go through a bunch of corporate login SAAS bullshit before you’re able to access your timesheet and punch in.
Wait that’s not “boot time” that’s literally just work lol
lol we just edited the time sheet every day
God forbid you get a windows update and there’s another 30 min of not getting paid. Scumbags.
