Line them up against a wall and make the process slow.
It’s literally this fucking meme every time.

People get told over and over to vote Democrat to prevent fascism, and when the fascists end up elected, the Democrats just fucking collaborate with them anyways. No wonder they’re scared of Mamdani.
By now I think you should vote 3rd party. No, the dems aren’t as bad as the fascists, but they won’t save you from them either.
USA is a single split personality party state
One like they imagine themselves to be and one for how they really are
It’s giving Smeagol/Gollum
The illusion of choice is proudly sponsored by the New American Ruling Class.
My assumption was that the Republicans weren’t going to shift — a lot of the money they got for tax breaks for the wealthy came from pillaging Medicaid. They can’t really back out and do their tax policy. I also didn’t think that the Democrats were going to just block the budget until Trump leaves office.
So I think that if what you were hoping for was all the healthcare coming back, that probably wasn’t going to be in the cards. I commented on roughly that earlier, that what I expected was one of the Republicans using the nuclear option (change the Senate rules to permit passing the budget without a supermajority), or the Democrats ending the shutdown without at least a full change on Medicaid.
The Democrats don’t really have much by way of levers to pull, because the Republicans hold a trifecta. This is one of the few things that they can do, and it’s a pretty weak lever.
So it really came down to a political play based on what will win more public support for the midterms. Will people shift Republican or Democratic? The Republicans will try to get people upset at the Democrats, to shift Republican. The Democrats will try to get people to shift Democratic. If the Democrats gain control of the House in the midterms, then they gain a substantial amount of leverage.
Will they do anything with it in this hypothetical? They had the trifecta for a brief time didn’t they? And didn’t really do anything substantial with it….
Perfect Onion headline, because nothing says leadership like yanking your team back from the exact right amount of courage. Love the mental image of Senate management as crowd control, but bitterly tired of bravery measured in focus-grouped increments.
If the plan is to keep being sensible adults forever, fine, own it. Just stop pretending this is strategy and not fear with better PR. Give me real fights and hard choices, or at least admit you’re auditioning for Practicality Award of the Year.
OOTL & non-American
What’s going on?
Enough Democrats caved that they’re ending the shutdown and people are still going to lose healthcare meaning it was entirely for nothing.
once again making it very clear that the suffering is the point
Fuck Chuck Schumer
He is the Senate Minority Leader - the head of the opposition. Which opposition essentially rolled over and approved many of Trump’s appointments.
Right now, it looks like they might cave and pass legislation to re-open the government, handing more tax breaks to the wealthy and screwing over the 99%.
And the only thing they’re getting is reinstatement of illegally fired employees and a vote on healthcare.
Sure maybe it’ll be bad for some Republicans to vote against healthcare, but that doesn’t mean anything to those that rely on it.
Thankfully this is only partial funding. Some parts of the government will get full funding and others will be on another CR through January.
If Republicans vote no on healthcare then by the time tge funding on CR expires Americans will be paying higher healthcare prices. Giving them more leverage to force a yes vote with the second round of budget talks.
I get what they are trying to do, but caving now with no real solutions makes them look weak to the public and definently erodes their power
Have you guys considered rebellion yet?
Things will have to be a lot worse before people sign up to go die in a war.
Everyone online is so brave when telling others to go die
Worse than starving??!
The vast majority of the population is not starving.
SNAP/EBT not receiving funding is certainly terrible, but this only directly impacts 12% of Americans. That is not an insignificant number. However, out of that 12%, 40% are children and 20% are elderly. So only 5% of Americans receiving benefits are not old or children. Doesn’t seem like enough people to start a revolution.
I think these numbers do outline how horrific it is, considering food is mostly being taken from the elderly and children. But I think you can quickly see why these people are not rushing off to start a war.
Additionally it’s been 10 days and food banks have been able to give out substantial aid. Only a subsection of those people would have ended up missing meals, and some states even funded the program through their own emergency reserves further reducing the number of impacted individuals.
My point is let’s not act like it’s the lead up to the French revolution and children and dying in the streets of starvation.
I don’t want to lessen the impacts this has had to many Americans. It has unduly caused suffering. But is it enough suffering for people to risk their lives and take up arms against the government? Is 12% of the population not receiving food aid a reason to start what would be a bloody civil war? That’s up for each person to decide when they are willing to die to uphold their moral convictions.
Would you be rushing to start a war? Would you go to die for this? It’s easy to tell others to do so, but when the time comes its not so easy
We can’t do that, that’s against the rules!
OK, how about tarring and feathering Chuck Schumer?
a popular American pastime that could be resurrected
The American public at large who has problems with fascists has been brainwashed into thinking violence is not the answer for decades. The only people in the US who hate fascists and think violence SHOULD be used against them are a very small minority, who ALSO do not want to start shooting first because winning the narrative is just as important as the rebellious act itself. Basically, until the current administration does villainy on the level of the Wounded Knee Massacre, no one will shoot at them. Until that happens, most people are rebelling in ways that are mostly disruptive. Don’t get me wrong tho, that IS still a valid form of rebellion.
Violence is not the answer in a democracy. Unless, you know, fascists capture the state.
When fascists capture the state it isn’t a democracy anymore so the first sentence still stands.
Now where have I seen this before…? Hmmm…
I’m so fucking sick of this. I can’t say anything more because it would be unwise for a variety of reasons.
